I love my fizzy drinks (non-alcohol), but don't like the unhealthy stuff like Coke, etc. So I mainly buy Grapetiser.

But thought if I buy a Sodastream I could vary things a little and buy say pomegranate juice and just fizz that up. The options are endless.

Anyway, I see there are two Sodastream models, the more expensive one with a lever on the right near the top, and a cheaper model with no lever.
Anyone know if the lever makes a big difference? Worth the extra couple hundred Rand?

I bought the cheap one (Terra version) and I love it. Sometimes, finding gas refill bottles is a bit of a mission. Most of my success has been at Pick n Pay at the "cigarette counter". Sometimes you get staff that know what you need other times you have to hold their hands through the process.

There is no way the Art version is worth the money. It does the same thing as the Terra version. So unless you are wealthy, have a designer kitchen, and want to maintain a certain aesthetic. Then go for it.

I don't see a difference besides the carbonizing tank size, I think. I have 2 machines and they take different sized tanks.

I get mine from Spar or Dischem. Game sells them at the customer service counter I think, that is where I got it before I moved to Centurion.

Thanks, I live in an area where we don't have easy access to a Game, but I will try my local Spar/Dischem.

I have also observed that the blue gas refills are easier to find than the new pink ones which is what the Terra and the Art versions use.

You could DIY the Sodastream to use an aftermarket tank - I am trying that now just waiting for a delivery with the adaptor. Then you can hook it up to a bigger co2 tank.

Yeah saw that. Will just have to see how much I actually end up using before needing a refill.

Sounds like a plan but then where do you get that bigger CO2 tank filled up? #CapeTown
In Pretoria the fire extinguisher guys help you out. Pretty sure there'll be something similar in CT.

I've currently got a 5kg canister hooked to mine. It costs about the same to fill it up as a standard soda stream exchange.

I know nothing for sure yet, but I have my eye on a fire safety play in CPT. So once I get the attachment I will take it there and find a CO2 fire extinguisher, 2kg, 2.5kg or at most 5kg.

It should work.

Edit, I will post the place once I find it again.

2xEdit

Be careful carbonating anything other than water.

This guy tested all kinds of things in his Sodastream.

Just started watching, thanks.

So a Sodastream might not suit my purposes then? If my goal is to mainly carbonate stuff like fruit, pomegranate juice, etc.

Or can you play around with the machine and just adjust to your needs?

You’ll have to experiment. Some sugary drinks will overflow.
