Hi all,

I was wondering whether or not anyone else has recently been experiencing poor performance with their Amobia link?

I have a 4 meg uncapped account, connected to their Cresta / Northcliff tower, and have been struggling to get even 25% of that speed lately. Timeouts to various sites have also become common when trying a traceroute.

Sad to say, but even my iBurst account, which I normally use as a backup, is more stable than Amobia's link.

I have logged a query with their helpdesk, but I am having to chase them rather than them getting back to me, and have received no feedback other than "we're still looking into it" from them since opening the ticket on Saturday.

I look forward to hearing from other Amobia users.

Cheers,
Ian

Nope fine in CPT, hope you come right. Maybe your tower is overloaded. Ask them?

Amobia is super crap for me since install about a month ago(4meg package). I had a screaming match last night with them. I never use the connection for anything hectic.

I stream a bit (40min a night) and only play games/get mail/browse otherwise.

This is my trace graph i have been mapping lately just to show you how crap this connection is:

For me local sites should never go over 80ms unless there is a lot of strain on the connection.

At times the ping gets as bad as 2000ms.

Support is also useless. They dont reply to mails, you have to call them and when you do they say they will look at it and call you back. I am still waiting for about 10 phone calls.

I'm with you on the support, or rather, the lack thereof. There's no proactive response from their side. It's only when I phone them that I get any updates, which are usually merely acknowledgements that there is a problem or that someone will contact me. I'm still waiting for "someone" to contact me.

I have in the interim resorted to expressing my dissatisfaction with Amobia on Hellopeter. If nothing else comes of this, at least I feel a bit better after blowing off some steam.

I wonder if this can be considered a breach of contract on their side, since they are not providing the service that I am paying for.

It's a pity Bitco don't have a tower on Northcliff hill, since that's the only line of sight I have at the moment.

Cheers,
Ian

Ian if they dont resolve my problem within the week they can come take their aintenna down on Saturday and refund me for this last month + installation.

Service was not provided and therefore I want my money back.
I am not unreasonable I just want a stable 4meg connection with a low ping to local servers.

Edit: Does Amobia have a MyBB rep?

HI all,

Popping in to give my story.

Amobia came to my house on the 22nd of November and installed the hardware on the roof. That night the internet was "stable" but all sites loaded as html format and didnt want to load images. Couldnt even reach youtube. However my phone was on the wifi and had excellent speeds.

Anyway, the following morning there was no internet. For the rest of that week I phoned 19:00 everyday to get it resolved. Had same replies as some of you with the "I'll call you back"

Just before I went ape...They told me they will send a technician.

The technician came and upgraded the dish software and routed me to another tower. Since then I had one slight hick up but had quality speeds and all my issues were sorted. Had 50ms on local servers and 189 on international.

I am on a 3mb uncapped.

Chris from Amobia phoned me earlier to say that he had upgraded the software / firmware on my equipment and that my download speeds appear to be sorted, but that there was still an issue with uploads.

He will be sending technicians to the high site tomorrow morning to see what is causing the interference.

While it hasn't solved all of my problems, it appears to be a step in the right direction at least.

Cheers,
Ian

So they did "changes" to "improve" my experience tonight.

Needless to say that this is what im getting on my 4meg:

Oh, I also spoke to the "manager" of the support side of things. JP. He said he will look into my ticket and call me back in 15min once he had read up about my issues. This was at 4PM. At 5:30 when I decided to phone them I was informed that he had gone home for the day! Seems like we have found the route of the problem with not retuning phone calls.

Chris called again today to tell me that he had sorted out my problem. From what I could understand, apparently another mast was erected in the vicinity of the high site, and this was causing some sort of interference. I'm guessing these guys are operating on some sort of unlegislated frequency.

This is a speedtest done a minute ago.

While I am pleased that my link is now back up to speed, the response from Amobia was on the slow side initially. Either that, or a certain other IT related firm that I do business with has spoilt me with their near immediate response time.

I hope that Chris (or similar) manages to sort out your issues as well.

Cheers,
Ian

They did more config changes for me and I have less of the same now. I have a feeling there is a crap load of interference so I have told them to come to change me to a different High Site

The area manager and an engineer came for a visit on Saturday. It turns out I was being connected to the wrong AP on the tower. Now that I'm connecting to the correct AP I generally have close to 4 megs up and down, when Eksdom allows me to connect that is. ;)

So they finally came on site and told me the whole setup needed replacing as it was overheating.

I dont get random disconnects or extremely high pings anymore but i still have +100ms to local sites.
Asking them to do the torching of specific sites also never gets done.

Wish i went with bitco.

Amobia had me sorted out for a few days, 4 megs up and down. Then they upgraded the high site I connect to. Now I'm lucky if I get 2 megs again.

Cheers,
Ian

@appleexpress I had the same problem as you, they fixed the connection for 2 days or so then it was back to slow speeds...

Waste a lot of time speaking to their support desk.

I just wish for once they could just sort their stuff out!!!

I've been struggling with speeds in the last few days too. My 3Mbit/s uncapped connection used to run at exactly that speed but now only manages about 1Mbit/s. I connect to a high site somewhere in central Randburg.

I've had to call in 3x over the last 2 weeks for separate issues...it's pretty annoying. I'm looking at getting Bitco now or just getting my ADSL back to 4mbps (Weltevredenpark area).

My story ended up having a happy ending (so far). I opened a support ticket yesterday and one of their guys called me a few hours later to say that they had fixed the problem. I have no idea what they did, but since then my connection has been running nicely again.
