Anybody fancy a wireless graphics card?

Nvidia have announced the launch of the KFA2 GeForce GTX460, the world’s first wireless graphics card. Read on for details.

The card sports five wireless antennae that can send uncompressed 1080p video at 60Hz wirelessly over a distance of 100 feet. All you have to do is attach the receiver box to the back of your monitor and you can be watching images in an entirely different room to your PC. Aside from the wireless capability, the card is a powerful, DirectX 11 capable 1GB GTX460.

The price of the card hasn’t been announced yet but it’s due to be released in the UK soon. You’ll find more details on the card on the KFA2 site. One thing’s for certain, it’s a pretty odd use of wireless technology. Can anybody think of a use for this thing?

I read a user on techpowerup mention the U.S version of the galaxy going at around $250.

A thought occurs... Why?

Here's one: a presentation-type setup - you put box down in the corner where power/network is and the screen in the best place for it because, as you're now NOT constrained by having to compromise, you can. This can also be mobile ..which it makes it two (...ish!) reasons!

Here's another: it breaks ground in a new direction. The genie is now out of the bottle on this so now (one DOES hope) AMD/ATi/Chipzilla *have* to respond and just like that we have a whole new tech being developed.

this is awesome! Now it just needs to stream, 2000kms, so that I can leave my powerful desktop at home, and use it via a thin led backlit touch screen anywhere in the country! (streaming must be free, of course )

this would be awesome if it was TOTALLY wireless; i.e. didn't need to be installed in a PC/laptop. But wireless to the monitor - meh.

Seriously, the reciever still needs a power supply so does the monitor, so an extra plug point is needed and you still have the same amount of wires running to the monitor.

I can't see how this card would help presentations.
