I've recently noticed that just after I sit down (either at home or in the office) that I experience a burning/numb-ish sensation from about my buttock down to just above the backside of my knee.

I was almost certain it had to do with the amount of time I spend sitting down and possible pinched nerves, so I did some googling and I found out its called Sciatica.

Is there anybody here who has this issue and advice on how to deal with it?

Consult with a physiotherapist. The sooner you do it, the better.

I have suffered from it for years. Some simple stretch exercises will help (along with a myprodol!) Stand with one foot on the seat of a chair and try touch the foot (on the chair) this will stretch the hell out of your hamstring and also lower back muscles & tendons. Cause of the pain is pressure on the Sciatic nerve where it exits the vertebrae in your pelvis. For me the pain which is a hot burning sensation runs from the back of my right hip, down the right of my thigh, into the back of my knee then down the right side of my calf into my ankle.

I am as lazy as it gets... lol ... and my downfall is weak core muscles. Concentrate on those core groups for your back and pelvis, and you will be pain free for months at a time. BTW, I spend 12+ hrs on my arse behind a PC, so yea, I think it is a definite contributing factor to getting Sciatica.

I only stretch the side thats irritating me, and if you are more flexible than me, put your foot onto the back of the chair & Grab and hold those toes for a little, then release. Repeat for a couple of minutes, and you will feel a difference. When you are good enough you can do like a ballerina ....
