Hi there

I did a memtest 86 run overnight on my system...when I woke up this morning to have a look...these where the results

After 9 successfull passes....at nr.10 a error was found...and it's currently at pass nr.17 with still only the 1 error.... Is this normal? I would not think so...What do you reckon?

It's standard procedure to run memory tests for at least 24 hours as some errors appear very rarely... leave it running again tonight, there is a good chance that nothing will get picked up.

Realistically you shouldn't get any errors.. if you do, there's a problem with one of the dimms. Errors cause memory corruptions. Memory corruptions lead to crashes. Crashes lead to anger. Anger leads to ha... ahhh.. got a bit sidetracked there :o

What about things like motherboard compatibility?

Jeez...these tests take sooooo long...and I have 4 x 512mb modules to test :(

You should be able to run memtest86 for days on end without any errors. Even a single error means something is either busy going or is substandard.

That said, a single error in 24 hours might only cause the occasional crash or weird behaviour.
