Anyone been to Egypt recently ....?

Hey there all.... I wanted to know if anyone has been to Egypt recently ... went there many years ago ... wanted to know if things have changed radically ....

My wife has not been there and she has been pestering me to take her there ... my past experience there was bad .... let me repeat BAD .... I am hestitant to return to that sh*thole again.
 
A friend went about 2 yrs ago and I hear its still a sh*thole - but it could be relative as I have no idea of your sh*thole experience :P

When I'm old and rich, I want to go to - but I think I'll stop by on the way to Europe. Too many people saying the same things ...

I 'd rather travel while I'm still young and able to walk without assistance :D

What is the point in doing it when you are too old to enjoy the experience? JMO !
 
If you want to go diving it is awesome other than that not much reason to go...

How about those little things called the pyramids or the Sphinx? Having one of the last ancient wonders of the world is reason enough to go.
 
By old and rich, I mean 35 ;)

I was there about 7 years ago if that counts as 'recent'? I thoroughly enjoyed it. It certainly wasn't a cesspit. We travelled the Nile by boat and stayed in some awesome hotels on the way back up. It is "dirty" but it's a bloody desert. Not sure what you mean by a sh|thole though - you'll need to expand on that in order to get a better answer from me at least...

Told my folks to do the same - why must I reap from their hard work? Nah, I told them to go ski...

I think between Discovery, NatGeo & History channel you see/learn way more :D
 
Sorry for the hijack. can someone please post pics of Egypt. in my mind I think of lots and lots of sand and small tent housing when I think of Egypt and I know thats not the case.
 
I did Egypt 2 years ago, its a hole but its got better broadband and public transport than SA.

The Arabs have wrecked the ancient treasures of the Egyptians but there is still a lot to see. Do 2 days max in Cairo and then go check out the rest of the country, its got a lot to offer.

Old people can barely walk. How the heck do they e.g. do sightseeing, walking for long stretches, eating "adventurous foods" and have a jol when they can barely breathe? No thanks, I am having fun NOW, not one day when I'm old.

Anyhow, you may die before then and you never had a chance ...
 
I regrettably do not wish to expand on the bad experience. Admittedly, we were partly to blame (as alcohol and women were also involved).
 
Are you lot crazy. I was there a couple months back and loved it.

You cant go to Egypt and expect it to be like somewhere in the Med.

If you are interested in history, culture, good food, city centre's that busy 24X7, cruises on the nile, relaxing in sharm el shaik than Egypt is your place. Granted there are alot of people trying to get hold of your cash (Tourist shops ect) but the country is always packed with tourist so you not alone there ( they even have special tourist cops in most areas).

Go for it with an open mind, get lost in the city, you'll love it!
