hey, i'm a zend developer. I've been thinking about learning jmonkeyengine as a hobby. Anyone that has had experience with game development care to comment on it? It looks good. Btw, I'm definitely not going to learn c++ as a hobby, will rather learn java (which is used at my work - so it will actually be useful to me career-wise). I'm not planning on making a game - that's not a 1-person job - rather I want to learn java and gaming development.

Would anyone be interested in working together with jmonkeyengine? I think it would make the learning curve more pleasant - espcially since v3 tutorials is scarce.

Feel free to comment.

Game Development

Why not try your hand at developing games for the android platform?
There are an abundance of resources and you have the android market
where you can sell your creation. Its easy to setup a development environment also.
You just download eclipse or you can even use netbeans IDE accompanied with the android
SDK+emulator.Besides jME games are a bit old school.

I agree - I installed Eclipse last night and did my first Android 'Hallo World' app. It was a breeze.

I bought this book by Reto Meier - Developer Advocate for Android at Google

Professional Android 2 Application Development (Wrox Programmer to Programmer) (Paperback)

It is the essential guide for Android development. You can find it on amazon.

Yeah developing Android apps would be a good step in the right direction for you. I've also thought about doing something like that...
