So I've been holding out on RICAing my prepaid Vodacom sim card which I've had for about 4 years, and today I received an SMS out of the blue saying that my sim card has been successfully RICA'd.

Thing is, I never RICA'd it! I logged in to the Vodacom site to check out my account details and lo and behold it seems as if I have been RICA'd. Not sure how though, they've never seen my ID book or proof of my address.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is Vodacom just automatically RICAing all those people holding out so they don't get cut off?

Cell C keep sending me please RICA smses pretty much daily.
I will not give in!!!

I'd be interested to see what name, ID number and address has been entered for my sim card because Vodacom has none of these pieces of information from me.

My Cell C sim was barred because I'd refused to Rica it.
I left it in a drawer for about 3 weeks, then rechrged it and turned it back on.

Lo - one fully-functioning sim card!

Something tells me that Rica is no crime deterrant whatsoever, and also that Cell C are not entirely jacked up on their network.

I wasn't Rica'd automatically, but Rica'd myself, when I took out a contract, and now everytime I call them they tell me I am not Rica'd.
Rica seriously has process inefficiency issues going on.

um maybe you should check! Maybe someone else has registered your sim card in their name?.. I don't see how they can suck your detail out of thin air. And even if they somehow did, I highly doubt it's legal.

Hi, Can you please check with VC if the RICA'd info is valid?

I haven`t rica`d yet...
i`ll rica when I get a new contract, or when they turn my cellphone off, but they won`t
They won`t disconnect us.... imagine disconnecting a 1 000 000 people, 1000 of those might have some kind of emergency, 100 might have an emergency resulting in death.... because they couldn`t use their phones. Not good for politics.

Did that a long time ago. I told this totally chilled indian salesperson that I only have my ID with me. He's like take this paper & write your home address on it. DIY proof of residence...

They know its a joke too.

I reckon they will. After 5 extensions to the cut-off date.

Absolutely they will, they have to, much to their own disgust. Government is demanding it, June sometime I think is the deadline. Just like Fica, we have no choice...

Cell C did mine without me requesting it.
I received an sms saying thank you for registering your details for RICA

The deadline for RICA is only June 30th last i checked, so they couldn't have barred you. That is most likely why your sim is "still" working.

Well, my phone could neither receive nor send calls for over ten days - I carried it with me before I threw it into the drawer.

If that is not barring, then CellC's service is abominable to say the least.

I GOT A MESSAGE ONE MORING WEHERE THEY SAID TO ME THAT MY NUMBER HAS BEEN RICA'D AND I HAVE RECEIVED R5 AIRTIME FOR THAT LOL, R5. (WHAT A JOKE)
