Anyone else hate driving?

I try to cycle when possible. I find it much more stimulating and I've learnt a lot about Cape Town in the process. You'd be surprised how easily you can link up areas with a few back alleys and bergie trails.

I love driving, whenever our group of friends go anywhere I am the driver

I enjoy riding shotgun, no objections to wife taking over the wheel. Do admit I don't like city driving at all and if it where not for public transport, I would not work in Cape Town CBD (I live 55km from the office).

Personally I prefer to cycle and use to cycle each day when I worked 6km from the office.

Out of curiosity, people who hate driving, what car do you generally drive in?

I love driving and drive an Audi A4

Once you've driven on the Autobahn, "normal" driving loses a bit of its appeal.

The cars comfort/luxury/power levels generally will make a difference to ones general perception of driving and there's nothing quite like hitting the open road with the cruise control on....especially when you know you're leaving Gauteng behind you. ;)

I will agree with others here and say that regardless of what car I drive, sitting in traffic is not my idea of fun and there are a million places I would rather be at that point in time.

I dislike driving, thanks to 12 years of the N1 from Pta to Jhb every day. People's impatience and lack of awareness (including my own sometimes) have turned the driving experience into a stressful, unhappy experience. No amount of music or meditation can balance the aggravation IMO

It seems the main factor when people hate driving is traffic. I admit it is one of the reason I ride and not drive when it comes to my daily commute.

The open road is a different story, even in a Chevy Spark you can have an enjoyable trip from Johannesburg to Cape Town as I recently discovered.

I love driving (golf 3, 1.8), but tend to drive opposite the flow of traffic so have an easier time with it.
Timing robots, picking the correct lanes by guessing how fast the cars ahead of me will pull off or whether they're likely to turn or not (I don't un-lane-change), randomly blocking people who don't indicate etc.

Oh and these take it to a whole new level:

The V8 is my favourite.

I find that my mood is directly influenced by how clean my car is. The cleaner it is, the better I feel, the calmer I drive. Traffic or no traffic.

A clean car is the solution to world peace. Calmer people drive slower, using less petrol, lowering the demand of oil from the middle east, meaning less middle east invasions by the US, The knock on effect is limitless, or unlimited? :D

I hate it too. I only enjoy driving on long roads, simply because their is less traffic and no robots. Day to day driving is a pain in the ass.

Yes, driving sucks. People saying you should have a better car, come on get real. That's like telling someone who hates jogging that they need better shoes. What can better shoes do, it's still endless miles of putting one foot in front of the other, and that's the issue. If you drive on public roads and obey the rules of the road, driving is boring. Driving fast cars I find even more frustrating because you know there's all that power under the foot but you have to putter along barely in the powerband, and I can't enjoy opening it up because I get paranoid expecting Officer WantsABonus to jump out of any shadow.

The only redeeming quality is to have your sound (music not exhaust) sorted but even that isn't ideal as it can become distracting.

My solution is to cycle... trying to stay alive works well to keep boredom in check.

Its more like comparing jogging through a squatter camp to jogging on a secluded beach on a beautiful island, as that would greatly influence my enjoyment, with a nice car (environment) you can get a lot more joy out of a task

I started hating driving in my Honda Civic Hatchback 1.8 vxi manual. Getting stuck in traffic, changing gears and cramped legs would irritate the hell out of me. However, ever since I bought my new BMW 320d Auto, I can't stop driving. I now enjoy driving so much that I even drive aimlessly just because I enjoy it. Buying an Auto has been the best change. Now I plug my iPhone in, listen to my tracks and enjoy a very pleasant driving experience :)

I love driving. I don't mind traffic too much if I'm not in a hurry to get somewhere. I like to think of traffic as time that I actually have to think. Anyway. Yeah I would rather drive to Joburg than take a plane. I take any excuse to drive long distance.

^This.

I hate driving cars that does not drive like my car... Sheer driving pleasure

I enjoy long distance travel with my fiancé, but the scenery needs to be interesting! I'm surprised that I don't hate driving also since i spend 4-8 hours a day driving a truck also..
