I don't know what is going on, but I haven't been able to link up with 98% of my usual sites today...weird, I can get here, and to the first page of Facebook, but no further. Cannot send mail via Google either.

Phoned Afrihost and was told to log on and post my complaint...great, I've forgotten the password, which they are supposed to mail to me...obviously the mail isn't working, so we have a catch 22 situation...all bloody frustrating!!

Uhhm you have missed the other 100 topic that say seacom is down cause ISP's like Mweb to crawl and IS to be completely down on international....

Chances are it's Seacom being down, everyone on IS is affected, so i doubt Afrihost can do anything about it.....well they could at least give the correct information out though.

Actually, you are correct, the guy who I spoke to after they opened at 8 this morning simply told me to go to the website and lodge my complaint....silly bugger should have told me to switch off for the day until they got sorted out!!

Confirming that Afrihost is still down for all international sites, (or so slow it isn't worth the trouble). Have gone online with Neotel Lite backup and no problem, so I find it odd that Afrihost is completely stuck.

yeah. there sorta have been a million threads about this.

YUP... AH is completely dead on INTL. Local works, but, that is about it.

Too often this kind of rudeness exists in South African forums, if someone asks for help, telling them that they are uninformed defeats the object of the exercise. Not everyone who uses these forums is constantly hanging around here.

I spent quite a bit of time this morning browsing around to find out whether anyone was experiencing problems today (Monday), because most of the threads on the Seacom problem were posted yesterday.

Mybroadband.co.za only posted a story that Seacom problems were still being experienced after 10 o'clock this morning. I therefore don't think the question was completely unreasonable.

Anyway, as stated elsewhere in this thread, I didn’t experience problems connecting to international sites with a Neotel Lite device, or on GPRS through a standard cellphone data connection. So I wondered whether the problem was universal or an Afrihost problem, regardless of the underlying cause.

Afrihost has posted a notice on its site that the international connectivity problem was Seacom related, I am just curious why not all providers are equally affected.

As a complete aside, since Afrihost has introduced its uncapped service, I have been experiencing more and more international latency on their capped packages, so I am seriously considering cancelling my bandwidth with them. They also have a nasty habit of not answering their phones and their turnaround time on email queries leaves much to be desired.

This is from the AH website:

ALERT: SEACOM Maintenance STILL IN PROGRESS

Last updated: 10h00 26th April 2010

Please be advised that the SEACOM cable is currently offline for maintenance. SEACOM maintenance was scheduled to be done on Saturday 24th April.

There is currently no expected time of resolution and we will update this status page as we get updates.

Traffic is being re-routed over SAT3, but international speeds have been negatively affected.

Services such as Instant Messenger and websites hosted overseas(google) will be affected.

Local speeds will not be affected.
