Just got this messasge:

"JAPAN INTERNATIONAL MOTORS YOU HAVE WON A TOYOTA LANDCRUISER VZ WORTH US$140.000 GLOBAL MOBILE NETWORK PROMOTION HELD IN KENYA. CALL Dr Martin"

These things are always so poorly worded and punctuated, it is hard not to tell they are a load of BS.

However, one always wonders, what if??:confused:

What if this is a legit competition? Did I miss out on a fabulous prize?

For the record, I smsed them back and asked them to call me, as I cannot phone internationally...

Will let you know what colour I get if I win:cool:
 
Rule of thumb : If you didn't enter a competition how do you expect to win it :rolleyes:

Best is to hit the delete button and never enter into any communications with these scumbags.
 
They'll fone you back and tell you something to the tune of: "Yes, dear sir, you have won the landcruiser, however we need you to transfer US100 to this bank account in order for us to register the vehicle on your name."

Once you've done this, they've got you on their hook. After that they'll ask for money to get export documents. Then more money for shipping documents. And if you play along with all this, they'll ask for shipping fees.

And once they feel they've gotten enough money out of you, they'll dissappear of the face of the planet and you won't get your car.

This is the normal modus operanti of the Nigerian 419 scam.
 
It's a scam. Just delete the thing. Google and you'll see that SMS has been doing the rounds in Africa and the Middle East

I'd suggest getting a new number ;)
They'll be bothering you for ages :o
 
what do I need to do to also be part of the e-mail selection? I want to have a chance as well.
 
I also got a sms like that a few months ago. What worries me is that they have my cell number what alse do they have of me?

The funny thing is that the number is from Ivory coast and not kenya.. Check it out.
 
The number has a 254 country code, if I recall correctly.

Another odd thing was that when I opened the SMS, there was a "Sender has requested a reply" flash message, similar to what you get on email. I have never seen this on an SMS before.

Either way, I'm not parting with any cash.

It is a bit drastic to change my number based on a single spam SMS. I do however wonder how the heck they managed to get the number in the first place??

I have also won about 4 lotteries in the past few months, so someone somewhere has sold/given my number to these 419 dudes...
 
It is scary to know that, here is a guy that actually seems to be aware of all the scams going around, but still thinking "what if". What are the "i don't know anything about the digital world or internet people" going to do.

My Aunt got that Message.She does not regret deleting it.It was similar to this one on this thread if not identical.
