Hi guys

I'm curious if anyone here has had issues with arrythmia, palpatations or heart attack and what you felt up to the point of diagnosis, or possibly during the events.

I've been having some odd thumps in the chest and recently saw my doctor who has since made a booking for me to visit Vincent Palotti in CPT to wear a 24 hour monitor to see whats going on.... Funny how when you need the symptoms to show face they never do....

Been having the thumps/palpatations/flutters for a bout 3 weeks. Could even be stress related considering, I've recently moved in with the gf, who became the fiance, and then the pregnant fiance. I've adopted the Tim Noakes ish diet, cutting out sugar and dropping carbs to a low portion of my diet. I drink 5 cups of coffee a day, up until today I've had 2, and since visiting doc I'm not allowed anymore. So by this time tomorrow I should start enjoying the withdrawals.

Mind you I am an anxious person and medicated for that, I've been mostly anxiety free for a year or so, up until I started feeling my heart doing funny things.

So yeah just looking for other peoples experiences..... how much of it came down to stress vs real problems ?

doesn't sound like a heart issue. sounds like stress/change in diet issue.

The sugar/caffeine withdrawals takes a while, at least 3 weeks before you start feeling "normal" again. Sometimes even a bit longer (remember, what you eat gets converted into sugar, so even if it doesn't include any, just make sure re: glycemic index etc)

Mine was/is stress and anxiety. I can cope with the stress at work and stuff though...

I have an arrhythmia issue, went to cardiologist, apparently its because one of my heart valves doesnt close properly.
Doc said it was from sport and isnt that uncommon

Had random thumps/palpatations/flutters a couple of years ago...

Talked to a friend who said he got same kind of symptoms from drinking Vita-Thion (tonic). I was also drinking it for my daily dose of Vitamin C. Stopped drinking it for while and thumps/palpatations/flutters stopped. For a test, I started drinking it again and within in week the symptoms started again. Never drank VT again and haven't had any symptoms.

I get palpitations when I'm very nervous, I think its been this way since I could remember.

How is your BMI? Do you watch your weight?

Just did my BMI and its not good ... will have to lose some weight, which I am aware of. I'm 1.90m and about 115kg's, not too active lately although I do get to gym from time to time. Eating is healthy , no drinking, no smoking.

Think i'll go put in 45 mins cardio this afternoon.

Have thumps and palpitations what will leave me in tears from time to time but my Cardiologist says my heart and BP is fine. Seems stress is a common factor.

Could be Ectopic beats which can be debilitating and terrifying regardless of what some cardio twit says. Cardiologists dont pay any attention to it because it supposedly non life threatening and incurable. They are only interested in structural problems.

I spent months where I couldnt even brush my teeth without my heart wanting to hit 180, skipping beats and fluttering all over the place leaving me breathless, shaking and unable to lift a muscle. Was told to "ignore it"

no no no no no. Please please consult your doctor before starting cardio with an undiagnosed heart condition...

Can't speak for palpitations but... Whatever you may have heard, a heart attack feels like this; Starts off as a discomfort, kinda like really bad indigestion, quickly gets a lot worse. Then, if you can imagine Os Du Randt making a fist, placing his fist on your sternum and gradually applying all of his weight on your chest and leaving it there (it's called Levine's Sign), you're pretty much there. It's agony.
If you're lucky, you'll feel truly awful and completely lethargic for the next 24 to 36 hours, while people you've hardly had the time to introduce yourself to will be standing around, giving you meds to crash your blood pressure and inserting catheters into your freshly shaved groin area... but you'll be alive.
Get to that doctor... Schedule an Angiogram if you have to... A heart attack is one of the things I can say, with utter confidence, I wouldn't recommend to anyone.

I can't stress enough, being overweight puts strain on your heart I have lost 2 people last year because they were over weight and their hearts couldn't take anymore strain. The first guy was a good friend he died at the age of 32 from a heart attack. The second guy died at the age of 35 from a heart attack. Please take care of your body and your heart you only have one.

As mentioned you MUST consult your doctor before starting cardio.

My heart skips beats, especially when I'm stressed.

It's normal, so says the doctor, and I'm still alive, so...

Yeah and I've got a ton to be stressed about at the moment.... today of all days when i go to the doc, go to gym and not even a single flutter....

I get PVCs (premature ventricular contractions) AKA ectopic beats. It's basically manifests as a skipped beat or a "pause" and then a hard (compensatory) beat.

It's benign and while it freaked me out a lot at first I'm used to it now.

But yes, better to be safe and have it checked out by a cardiologist to make sure that your heart is structurally normal and that you're otherwise healthy.

Some days I have them frequently and other days it's perfectly normal.

Apparently most people get them but are just unaware of it whereas some people are just very sensitive to it.

So... yeah. I wouldn't worry too much just yet if I were you :p

That sounds exactly like what happens to me.
