I had heart issues as per the OP for a while until it got so bad in Feb 2012 I thought I was in the verge of a heart attack.
I went for tests (ecg etc) and Dr found my heart was perfectly healthy. He sent me off to a gastroenterologist where scopes were performed. Turned out I had a hectic hiatus hernia which often created irritation in my chest resulting in these odd heart issues.
I have been for the op and in my final week of recovery. None of the heart issues have re occurred. Well, there weren't any - but it sure as hell felt like it.
Just something else to look out for.

I've suspected a hiatal hernia being the cause of mine too but don't have anything conclusive. It doesn't bug me enough to go to a gastroenterologist (I'm scared of an op being screwed up and being worse off than I am now).

If you need to see someone, go see Prof Van Der Walt at Unitas in Pretoria.
He is k@k expensive but with a 97% success rate and 3% return rate, it is money well spent.
I first saw Dr Ziadi (spell) at Linksfield. After pumping me full of all sorts of meds I eventually asked for the op. He said no as it is 50/50. Fair enough. Not letting any Dr who says that work on me.
Travelling from Edenvale to Pretoria for my wife was a big pain too. But this dude is worth it.
Oh... He is very busy. I booked an appointment in May 2012 and only got to see him in Nov. So if you just thinking about it, at least make the appointment.
Good luck dude. I know how it feels. Not nice.

Only have a Bicuspid Aorta valve and a slight leak which was repaired when I was young but the leak has started again slightly so have checkups every year

so you have no tricuspid valve :wtf: not even a replacement ? Small leaks in children is more of the common birth faults thats uncommon (if that makes any sense lol).

Pretoria is a bit far from where I am
It's a mostly symptomless hiatal hernia (both my parents have it as well, my mom gets severe pain from hers though so she takes some sort of medication for it). Most of my issues are with the skipped heartbeats and the occasional indigestion but nothing severe enough just yet.
I've actually been advised against it because (apparently) there are many complications that arise from it and, even in my mom's case, they don't treat it unless it becomes unbearable.
So I've been properly scared off of having anything done

Yes trying to take care of it so far with no problems after 25 years besides the leak, going to the specialist next month in JHB again for a checkup so hopefully good news again.
