Currently on an 8Mbps line, and I've recently had some issues watching twitch streams at any sane quality. I can happily stream YouTube at 1080p, but I get frequent stuttering on twitch at 360p, having to frequently drop to 160p when it gets too bad (5-10 seconds of freezing every minute or so). If I'm watching for anything aside purely information purposes, 160p is.... Rather painful to steam at.

Just wondering if it's only me, or if anyone else is having issues watching twitch streams.

I have the exact same issue, can stream youtube, netflix and showmax on HD with no problems, but twitch buffers constantly even at 360P!

Hey Reelix, you should not have issues with Twitch ever, we will need to troubleshoot this though, can you drop me a PM so I can do so with you? :)

Do yourself a favor and install Streamlink Twitch Gui , your buffering days will be gone forever.

I had to same problem on various ISPs and this is the only fix I have found.

Awesome! We've done testing in the past for Twitch and haven't found any issues, but if anyone is still struggling, we are here to help.

Fascinating then that everyone who's replied here is having issues, with no-one saying that their twitch is fine, and even resorting to third-party programs to help alleviate the problem :p

Not on Afrihost, but in my experience, Twitch streaming is just worse than others, regardless of ISP.
Anything I can watch on eg. Youtube smoothly without issues while Twitch has to buffer every now and then no matter what video quality is used, same result from multiple ISP's and connection types

I understand, and it's not my intention to waiver the issue, again I am here to help though. A PM my way and I will make sure our NOC team looks into it.

Also not Afrihost and also have the same issue.
When I was on telkom ADSL and the current 7mb WISP I am with.
Netflix, youtube (including live streams) even the streaming on Steam are all fine.
Just Twitch

I do not think it is a ISP issue.
I find that with with the low latency setting turned off Twitch doesn't buffer constantly, but then it streams at potato quality and not worth it.

Same, not an Afrihost issue but prevalent on most ISPs. Twitch optimizes 'known' streamers' streams but does FA for lesser known ones who aren't partnered. Youtube and Netflix algorithms are far better at providing a more seamless stream. Facebook's own video player was equally janky in the beginning but seems to have become better now.

One thing to note about Twitch though is that some lesser known streamers also have a tendency to set up their OBS or whatever software's bitrate higher, as though streaming at 7Gb/s will make the experience of watching the stream more enjoyable when the average viewer has McDonald's-internet :(

Same setup, tried many ISPs, and I've never been able to watch twitch streams at any streaming rate. Youtube has local servers so it's probably not a fair comparison, but I can watch other internationally sourced video content perfectly fine. Perhaps twitchs' compression is just not good enough?
.

Yep, can also confirm twitch uses STUN (or something) which is a weird message thing they use to send the video, but it seems to take a running kak when you try and do it over a long distance (Us to the EU, being the likely closest path to Twitch).

Its always been a bit **** for me. 1080p on a good stream on a good day, otherwise 720p

Hey guys, we have been carrying out some pretty extensive testing with it, this is definitely not an issue on our side, we have had times where it struggles, and other times where it runs like butter. Just my 2 cents on this.

I'm with Afrihost running 20/10Mbps fibre optic and Twitch is terrible. Can't watch streamers at all and even Overwatch League isn't great (stuttering, 360p). Must be a Twitch streaming issue. Wish they cared about the rest of us. No one cares about SA :(.

Twitch is fine for me......I'm not on Afrihost
I have Vox Fibre 20 Mbps

Hey Milie

I am so sorry to hear that your connection to twitch TV is poor.
Has the situation improved?

Regards
