Hi I went for a 3G contract a couple of months ago, hoping to use it with my workstation.

I subsequently tried two different cards (PCMCIA-PCI bridge adaptors) one of which just didn't work (from Incredible Connection), and one which functioned as a card (ricoh card from computer mania), but the 3G drivers didn't install correctly.

I have also used a friends laptop in my flat and found the coverage to be less than desirable.

Now I find myself in the crap position of having a 3G contract that I can't use and when I contacted Vodacom to enquire about exit fees, they said it would be R7900... Which is basically the rest of my 500MB 3G contract.

I cannot understand this, if they wanted me to pay hardware costs for the Novatel Merlin they gave me, that would only amount to R1800 at very most I imagine, so where the rest comes from is just scary.

Does anyone have any idea of who I could contact to sort this out?

welcome to myadsl. there is a member on the forum by the name of Vodacom3G, he might be able to assist.

i doubt of you will be able to get out of the contract. i think that you best bet is to try and get someone else to take over the contract.

Welcome to the world of cellular contracts. Engineered by the best legal minds of South Africa over the last 10(?)years to screw cusomers 10 times over.

dev7,

Vodacom''s policy is simple. We either give you what was sold to you or we cancel your contract, on your request. You obviously bought the data contract because you've got a need.

So first price (for everyone) is to get you working.

Have you made contact with 155 to try and help you resolve the problems? What did they say?

Won't you PM me your contact details and we can start sorting this out?

I know it's a bit of a shock for the conspiracy theorists, but no-one is trying to screw anyone over.

Sorry, I guess my comment was a bit uncalled for. I'm in a bit of a cynical mood today.
