Actually, it's really easy.
For Leopard, I used the boot 132 method and had to physically install kexts for lan and audio. Graphics on Geforce 9600 gt using efi strings.
Snow Leopard is a little trickier. You have to compile a DSDT.aml in Leopard. DSDT is so important as Apple now use this as a standard to get your hardware info for SL (Same as BIOS). Without it you will get kernel panics pre-installl; or during install.
I used the Boot-think method on usb. All you have to do is copy DSDT.aml and com.apple.Boot.plist from Leopard to the usb drive's relevant directory and you can boot and install from the retail DVD. ( you have to enable cd boot install option using the command in the .pdf that comes with boot-think) Only kexts needed are also copied to the Boot-Think relevant directory. This bootloader also gives you the option of booting into XP or 7 if installed on seperate HD's.
Unfortunateley, Insanelymac have way too many install methods that are not correct. The method where you install SL from L is incorrect. It's like installing Windows on one PC to be used on another. The other thing is that they are obsessed with the chameleon method which forces you into 64-bit mode resulting in driver and software failiure. The Boot-think method is standard (vanilla). SL in 32 bit runs 64 bit kexts anyway,
Nope, I prefer my macbook.Anyone running a Hackintosh?
They lied to you. The hardware is pretty average and the graphics card is nearly always listed on the reviews as "not for graphic intensive software and only for beginner games".@Synaesthesia
You are going to laugh... But after much searching and calling HP/Compaq, it came out that DION's was the only people who were going to be keeping the Mini 311...
I paid R5000 for it with the following spec:
N270
1GB Ram
160GB HDD
ION LE
Windows XP home...
As you can see I have upgraded the ***** out of it... and there is a huge community out there with these units.... Have only found one other person locally though![]()
To my knowledge netbooks with the ION chipset ( its a 9400M minus the dedicated memory) are the only netbooks in the world that can play 1080p streams flawlessly.. and I can confirm that... I have tried on the Samsung N130, Sony Vaio W series, Vaio TT series and the new R20K Viao X series (X118, 11" LCD, Atom Z550 - 2Ghz, 2GB RAM,128GB SSD, GMA500, 13Hrs Batery, 780g total weight!!!!)... they ALL failed epically...
And the Irony of it is.... and you going to laugh at this.... my mini 311 even plays 1080p Movies better under W7 ( +- 40fps, MPC-HC, DXVA enabled) than it does on my Macbook pro 13" 2.53Ghz under OS X SL ( +-22fps, lots of tearing, Using VLC). though in all fairness I am not sure if VLC takes full advantage of video acceleration, because my mini also fails epically playing 1080p streams under Linux and Mac OS. As did an iMac 21.5'' with C2D 3.06Ghz + 9400M.. though admittedly I only noticed the occasional pause on the iMac
and for interest sake I was using LODR - Return of the King as a reference file. Size is 11GB, and format is .Mkv playing at 38Mbps if I recall correctly.
Also I am using the onboard GFX card on the desktop.... You think that could be were my problem lies??
The reason I have not "converted" fully to Mac is for the simple reason that it incapable of playing Blu-Ray via my external BD-Drive under Mac OS... I have tried everything! and the only way I can do it is by "bootcamping" into W7and they told me Apple hardware/software is ahead of its time????
So how is it "ahead of it's time"?I disagree, the Macbook Pro range is excellent. The HP 311 looks like a super Netbook, I really want one, but that price is a little too high for me at the moment.
OS X is a great OS but it does lack in those two areas compared to Windows namely hardware accelerated video playback and Blu-Ray playback. Hardware acceleration is available only on the 9400m, using Quicktime Player X. Try Perian![]()
It won't work really on the X200 because it has Intel X4500 graphics, but you could almost certainly get it working well on the Acer since it has X3100.I have failed on 2 occasions to get the hackintosh going on my acer travelmate 6292 and Lenovo X200 TP; it is a true hack this, I must admit. I think I must hook up with someone who has done this and is a master at troubleshooting driver issues. I would very much like to run the mac os on a pc--it is a *nix, with a lot of finesse.
