When we signed up, we specifically asked about download speeds and such because of trouble with previous suppliers that promised fast speeds but within a few months dropped to a trickle.

The NoWire agents guaranteed a minimum of 64K on our 128K package. They said it was a Sentech guarantee too. Now I wonder if that can be inforced with the terrible speeds that we are experiencing at the moment? It has its moments, but mostly really slow!

There is no gurantee on service delivered, i guess Sentech could argue that 2k a sec is reasonable service as their packages state 128k shared ect. The only problem with this is no new customers in their right mind would subscribe and exisiting customers would make life hell for tech support and Sentech.
Reasonable bandwidth for 80% of the time would be considered a resonable service, ADSL has manged to provide users with 50k second local permanently and up to 50k internationally to most large sites and ftps. If Sentech wnat to compete with Telkom their offering needs to have similar peformance as adsl is the only other service we can compare it to.

the stuff they supply is good **** !!

SaintM, from a previous post of mine :

From a query sent to support on 22/04, I received replies from 2 ppl (indicated as S1 and S2) :

3.. Would "shared" imply that my bandwidth will deteriorate as more people in my zone sign up, to the point where it might become unusable ?
S1: The contention ratio is 20/1, If you devide the connection speed by 20 that will be the worst case .
S2: You will share your bandwidth between 20-30 users on the network. So take 128/30 and your slowest it will get is 4.26kb/p if 30 users use it at the same time as you.

4.. From the FAQ, maximum bandwith would be whatever package chosen. Is there a (theoretical) guaranteed minimum ?
S1: The contention ratio is 20/1, If you devide the connection speed by 20 that will be the worst case .
S2: 4.26kb/s in the lowest minimum.

I have not once anyware, in sentech's contract, or web-site seen any garuntee. And well, they cannot take responsibility for an agent talking too much.
From my knowledge, they dont garuntee anything except the debit order? hehe

lol , too true. got a friend on VSTAR - Sentech sat connection he has absolutely no problems with bandwidth. So i wonder what the issue is ? Sentech's contract is indeed teh suck, you are entitled to pay for the service stated as a TCP/IP connection between two wireless devices.

Wonder how many people have opted not to take Sentech because of this problem, two people that i referred My Wireless too have decided not go with the service, i wonder what my 1200 IT proffesional user database would think of these problems???????

try this speed test:
http://www.ncomglobal.net/utils/spdtst.htm
Your throughput 5600 cps

Typical 33.6K 4000 cps

Typical 50K 6000 cps

Typical ISDN 64K 7500 cps

Typical ISDN 128K 15000 cps

well I tried that test getting this:
Your throughput 16370 cps

Typical 33.6K 4000 cps

Typical 50K 6000 cps

Typical ISDN 64K 7500 cps

Typical ISDN 128K 15000 cps

By the way I'm in DBN with a 256k package and recently got a antenna so signal is 37% and the SNL is 15-17

According to this my connection is around about the 128k line a little more actually?

I think the problem is JHB/PTA related, although you should also be getting more than you did on the test.

I agree I should be getting more but since 2 weeks ago friday at a usual 20-28kB/s dropped to 4-6KB/s I'm glad it seems there is some gain being made bandwidth wise since it now atleast has 50% of the bandwidth the package should get.

the test is running on a box on InfoSats server farm, Sentech own InfoSat, we should be getiing full throughput to this test..................

I'm currently getting 26kb/s download now - not max, but certainly acceptable for the time of day. I am still not happy about no official word from Sentech, but let's see how long this lasts before I let my mood improve.

i have to say that since about 5:30pm its picked up alot for me (randburg area). I did the above test now just 1 time and got 12500cps. Not too bad. Oh im on the 128k package.

I'm using Radiokop tower 82

This was the speed test that I did On 10/05/2004 at 10:00pm on my 128k package on a 2MB test @ (http://www.sentech.co.za/speedtest/display_speed.php)

Your speed is: 2.97 MB/s
The test took 0.688 seconds to complete

This can't be a true refelction of my speed ??? can it ?

Then on the
MyADSL Local (South African) Speed Test : 42.70kbps

now how does this work ?

you seem to be getting cached results...

Try refreshing while pressing the control key ... tends to then force a new fetch from the server....

yeah. it seems to have been fixed - to a degree. It's still a tad sluggish, but MUCH MUCH better than it was...

I haven't lost my mind... It's backed up on disk somewhere...

i still feel a single honest reply from Sentech would have made all the difference , but ok we back online properly.

Just dont forget folks, when storing your weapons ahead of the next time there's a Sentech whoopsie - dissemble the weapons, grease 'em, double-wrap in plastic and bury them in the backgarden ready to be pulled out and used when necessary..
