Shame on the person who voted no.

From where I am the count is currently zero for "no", but if there WAS a voter it would have to be sh1 diligently and altruistically conserving bandwidth so that there there is enough left for his granny.

bboy, sorry to have hijacked the thread - I was hoping for some enlightenment about the "I love caps" viewpoint.

ok taking a breather from the arguement for a while, is it possible telkom may be deliberately not capping their accounts? not because of being anti-competitive or anything, but as an experiment. especially in light of the icasa regulations about increasing caps, and future comptetition from SNO etc. maybe they're determining the real load that their network can handle, and the real averages that people use should they not be capped?

i see this as possibly preparation for crunch-time when competition do eventually arrive, especially given vsnl's recent acquistion of the terrabit line linking europe, far east and north america. SNO have already stated that they wont be as harsh with their capping policies. any thoughts?

/Jabu takes a breather - whew!

Highflyer_GP there are rumours doing the rounds ( and I seem to remember it also being mentioned here but I cannot find the post ) that Telkom are going to get serious about capping from January. Rumours, mind you. I would put the current state down to incompetence more than experimentation, and there DO seem to be people getting capped ( at quite high levels ) from this and other threads, by Telkom. Maybe it is "testing" - a good compromise of incometence and experimentation.

Well according to Telkom its just a clever way for them to accomidate the high-end users, and unless a lot more adsl users start using their bandwidth alot more i cant see them determining much that would be usefull to them.

Also based on the way Telkom has behaved towards competition in the past i see no reason to believe that this capping policy of theirs isnt at least in part an attempt to kill the competition.

I do agree though that Telkom is preparing for competition. I have the sneaking feeling that we'll be seeing a kinder more "customer friendly" Telkom in the months to come. Im also prepared to be proven completely wrong on that point though.

Dont forget that we're dealing with Satans little brother here, those sneaky fcckers at Telkom could probably teach Lucifer a trick or two.

I thought this was over, but I see you're seeking attention again. No one from school wanna play with you?
My cap is long gone, but I'm also far from reaching the 300 mark.

Ask mommy to take you to the movies tonight, or pay someone else to play with you. You boring me now.

bboy - 24Gb no cap yet
:)
Mr 8 posts - I said from the beginning I use about 15 Gig per month (about 13 for work and 2 for play), not 250 Gig on crap.
Normally I have to pay for it once I go over 3 Gig, but I still need 15 and I will use around 15 again this month and the same next month - not run up to 250 just because I can, and not to tell everyone - wow I downloaded 250 GIG.
I hope this better explains it - I can do it in Afrikaans or Français if you dont understand.

Just came home to being hardcapped on my Telkom account. It was in excess of 60gb...

Question: What exactly happens when you are capped with the Telkom accounts?

I am just wondering as this afternoon one of my accounts stopped working. Just says the password is wrong, both for pppoe auth and when trying to check the usage stats web pages.

May I assume from this comment that I can expect that the topicality, relevance and overall quality of my posts will improve the more I post?

It amuses me how the pro-cap brigade ( Happy Cappers ) are always pushing for a cap just a bit bigger than their own monthly average, and assume that anything more that anyone might want is "cr@p".

All his "Senior Member" status indicates is that hes being spouting this carp for around two months or so.

Or else hes been banned for being a loon and has come back under a new nic.

Uploaded : 33.6545 GB for the month

Well, it does seem that they are doing some kind of experiment. And from what I hear the average cap level is 70gigs. I don't think it is incompetence on their side, as everyone seems to get capped around the same level.

If they are trying to determine what the average user uses, then I think it is important for everyone who can to fukk with their data, and push that average to the max so that we can all benefit at the end of the day.

/me loads up third account. Aims for 70gb by the end of the month...

Hi there

I just checked my status last night and found that I am 500MB over the 2GB cap. So I logged into World of Warcraft and its still working fine.

Hope not they are going to cut me off now....

Cheers
