Anyone use lastminute.com or similar

I was wondering what your experiences were when booking an overseas trip on you own.

Found another site called travelocity.com but I dont think they serve RSA.

Thanks in advance.
 
edit: I am specifically looking for a multi-leg journey SA >>> Hong Kong (2 or 3 days) >> Phuket (7 days) for 2 adults.

Wanted to see if it cheaper to do it myself.
 
I used expedia.com for my last trip - multi-leg CPT -> London -> Seattle -> San Francisco -> Los Angeles -> Oakland -> Houston -> London -> Cpt .. and it worked brilliantly ..

Takes a bit of a leap of faith to believe that the little A4 printout and the plastic in your wallet will get you onto the plane - but rather nifty once you've done it.

Oh - I also did hotel bookings via them - if you want I do suggest you check out tripadvisor.com - it is a sorta community based review site for hotels / attractions etc - usually pretty up to date.

OMG! I do admire your courage! Especially about the little A4 printout ... :)
Personally, I don't have the balls to do a multi-leg like that ...

+1 for tripadvisor ... I have used that many times before.
 
once you know what aircraft is used on the route, use seatguru.com to avoid those poor seats that are on everyones route to the bathroom..

can also vouch for expedia..did a multileg jhb-paris-bristol-edinburgh-amsterdam-jhb...not a hitch!
 
Ive used Expedia and Travelocity for full trips. I have also used Kayak for air tickets.

There is nothing to worry about. Once you have made the bookings you just call the hotels/car hire/airlines to confirm the booking. Easy as pie. And saving a WHOLE bunch per trip helps as well. The rest of the world do it... we need to learn..

For flights I usually use skyscanner and then log onto the website of the cheapest airlines that skyscanner finds to book my tickets.
 
We did Dubai, Bangkok, Phuket and back the same way last month thru latestays.com, worked really well, and a couple I think we got the full ten days for like R15k for all flights and accommodation for both of us. Saved us about R5k vs the next best quote we could get

15k for the both of you? So 7.5k each for all flights and accommodation! Wow that's a bargain.
 
I used Lastminute.com a lot while I was in the UK - love that you can get a 4 star (mystery) hotel for the same price as 3 star - stayed in the Hilton a couple of times for like 20pounds a night :)
 
Bit of a bump:

Quick question: When using travelocity. How does one manage their bookings? For example. I booked a flight via SAA and the website did not ask for any ID or passport number. So what do I do? How does check in work?
