Thinking of ordering music gear from Germany. They have UPS Express at checkout which is considerably cheaper than using Aramex Global Shopper. The UPS google reviews locally are terrible though.

Both bad and good experiences - in ZA it's the driver for that day as RNG.
Also see a lot of reviews moaning about them trying to tack on extra fees and making the payment of duties etc. quite difficult.

No way you can use amazon US / UK for this? Sorry I thought you were going through amazon - well we all know scots is now turned **** so not sure what else there is to do here. I won't do a direct country to country and not use someone like amazon just for very easons you just mentioned.
Nah it's from a store in Germany. Usually I would just use Amazon but they don't stock this item. I'm using Aramex Global Shopper for another non-Amazon US order so will see how that goes, just a bit unsure about UPS Express as it's all the German place offer. Unless I want to pay more and use Aramex Global.

They are difficult to deal with, but you do get your goods, unlike the postal service. The extra charges complaint is probably people who dont understand vat, duty and disbursement fees. They cant really rip you off, unless they make a mistake. You can check the duty code yourself as well.
For business where we have a choice, we havent used them for years, and for express use DHL. For personal if there is options I also use DHL.

Nah. Making music. Headphones on and make noise for an hour and forget about the outside world. I like noisy percussive sounds so that's what this is for.

R580 in handling fees is fkn outrageous, even more so considering these days all this is processed automatically, the system auto sends you this duties invoice and you pay online. All that happens while the package is in transit and other than the actual delivery which you have already paid for they do nothing else, there is zero handling by them related to the import process.
Ja I was wondering why:
Order on Amazon US:
Pay +- R500 for delivery and whatever for import duties. Give your ID # and that's it. Parcel comes to your door.
With UPS you pay R500 at checkout for delivery, then you still have to pay handling fees when it gets here. And they still need signed documents and copy of ID etc.

It’s definitely a bit of a scam because most people know duties will be owing but have no clue about the secondary fee shock when it arrives in Sa and they aren't the only courier that does it, I've not seen it as high as R580 though.
Luckily I was expecting it as I was warned that's how UPS operate. I think the cost of Aramex global shopper was around R1000.
Ridiculous how cheap gear is abroad but there's no cost effective way of getting them here. A few smaller items I was looking at on the same store but not sure if I'm willing to pay so much for shipping again.
(Other than cost I had no issues with UPS. Regular updates, friendly on the phone etc).
