Anyone using a treadmill desk?

My chiropractor recommended to reduce my hours of sitting. Since my office job keeps me chained to a chair, I am considering a treadmill desk or standing desk. I am a designer, and I am wondering if anyone has any experience of doing work at a treadmill desk? Just wondering if the walking motion interferes with the precise mouse movements required. Thanks.

This would be so cool but would be expensive I guess

A colleague got a Jumbo DeskStand a few months ago and loves it. SA made.

I'm very keen for just a stand up desk, I've tried one, it seems to put you in a batter frame of mind as well. Suppose one of the challenges of sitting down all the time is most of us have piece of sheet chairs, a good sit down chair is well over R5k, probably closer to R10k for really decent. Then sitting down is not to bad.

I have been thinking about getting one as well, but I would like to test one before I fork out the money. Not keen on spending R30k-R40k on something I will not use. The other problem is I'm currently 1.9m, so I have to make sure I can adjust it to fit me.

I use a motorized desk at work which has a little servo built in so that you can raise or lower the height of the desk from sitting to standing levels. I thought it was a gimmick...actually it is a gimmick, but its pretty dope for when you're working with drawings. My neck kills me when I have to lean over a desk for too long.

replace ( at least for 1 or 2 hours in the beginning ) your chair with a gym ball. After a couple of weeks you'll never need a chiropractor again and then try to sit at least half the time on the ball

Say hello to hemorrhoids, or so I've heard. Imagine it depends on your build though

How are you sitting on the gym ball that causes that? You shouldn't be sitting any differently than you would on a chair?

I'd love a treadmill desk. I read a study that found that after an adjustment period, workers productivity increased in the region of 10% IIRC. Plus the bonus of getting slimmer is never a bad thing (for most people).

We have stationary bikes at some of our desks. It takes a bit of adjustment to cycle and type at the same time but they're quite popular once you get used to them.

Been using it for 4 years!

My job used the be extremely sedentary, when I started to get back problems I tried out the treadmill desk. That is now 4 years ago. This is me below. I walk about 10 to 12 km per day - which equates to 3,500 km per year. I record this all on my FitBug. A real life changer - they are worthwhile investment. can get them from Walk and Work: http://walkandwork.co.za

Yes this guy is doing it right!
Like a bossss!

I'd love something like that, how does walking affect your touch typing abilities or does you mind/body auto adjust after a while of doing it?

The trick is that you are walking very slowly, about 2.5 km/h. And I rest my elbows on that grey cushioning on the desk, which keeps my arms static. Typing: did an online typing speed test, around 40 to 50 words per minute, no difference if I was sitting behind my desk.
It is actually rather additive, I cannot imagine working without a treadmill desk.

@Nuke: at home I have a TR800 with a manual desk - at the office I have a TR5000 with TD7, which is shared with fellow co-workers.

What's the approx outlay for the desk/treadmill setup in the pic for one user?
