Is anyone out there using a banking app(FNB) on a JB ipad?

How safe is this?

I'm a little surprised that they (FNB) still allow it. My only gripe with the JB on my phone is that I cannot use the ABSA app.

As for safety, once an iDevice is jailbroken there is a default password for root access (or there used to be, not sure about iOS 8 or 9), so I imagine the banks would rather play safe and not allow their app to run.

You need to check yourself before you wreck yourself. Your post is so full of misinformation, it gave my cat cancer.

^ lol...

But to answer the OP think there's a Cydia tweak to bypass JB detection.

Is it safe? -> Is anything online really safe.. 0o

It's as safe as any other device - the app establishes a secure connection. Unless you download pirated apps and visit dodgy sites all the time on the device, you should never have to worry.

Jailbreaking an iDevice does not give you root access, it bypasses Apple's restrictions and gives you access to the Cydia store...

I'm going to assume we're talking about different things here. Jailbreaking the device allows root access by SSH, or via terminal on the device. This access is password protected, said password is the same on all devices by default.

Hmmm, I have to disagree here. Once you jailbreak you gain access to the Cydia store where you can download ifile which can basically be used for navigating the entire iOS which you can also edit files if you want (not recommended unless you know what you're doing). Not to mention you can also download a terminal emulator. I'd like to think that that is called gaining root access.

Yeah but a jailbreak on it's own does not give you root access, like rooting an Android would.

By intentionally installing these tools, you assume liability and relieve the bank of theirs. It works in much the same way as if your online banking credentials were to be compromised on your pc. The bank played their part in order to meet compliance standards, to have to play yours in order to maintain security over your credentials...

Again, I have to disagree here. Jailbreaking does give you root access. The minute you jailbreak you gain root access. The mere fact that Cydia is installed once jailbroken means that you have gained administrative access. Cydia then provides the means to download tools such as mobileterminal and ifile that is basically the UI to interact with iOS on an administrative level. These tools are not the tools that gives you root access. You already have root access just need a way to interact.

Yup. And the big danger is most people don't know about that root access and therefore never change the default password.

Quick network scan and you can login and download a whole lot of content from random phones with zero effort.

The banking apps are safe though.

Jailbreak your phone, load up iFunBox on your PC and you have unfettered access to the root directory.
