anyone using EoP? (Ethernet over Powerline)

Well when I moved into my new room I didn't have internet access, and wiring through the ceiling wasn't an option (flat roof annoying as hell) so I went with wifi dongles that were rated wireless N and it was ok, had a lot of drops and such, and gaming on my ps3 and xbox wifi was also pretty bad...

Decided to try these http://www.takealot.com/computers/linksys-plsk400-powerline-4-port-kit,11010775 and so far I have zero complaints, it's as if I was right next to the router like I used to be...

The nicest thing is multiple ethernet connections so one doesn't need to connect via a switch/hub, and the free shipping made it a helluva bargain considering wifi dongles go for R300 odd...

I use it for browsing, streaming, gaming and so on, the only issue you might get is streaming HD 1080p content to a media player but you'd have an issue with that on budget routers anyways

THANK YOU so much for that information. You just helped me finalise a decision I was needing to make.

My main PC and server are 1m from each other, both use 802.11n to connect to the router which is in the kitchen by the telephone jack. Running CAT5e is not an option and neither is running a long telephone cable to my room. I am tired of the stuttering that I get when watching even SD content over the wireless network.

I wanted to get a WD LiveWire (heard great things about them) but its only a 10/100 hub on either end (found it on FirstShop.co.za for R676). As you've pointed out, the 10/100Mbps speed of your Linksys PLSK400 is not ideal for streaming HD so I am thinking of either getting the Linksys PLSK400 or the TP-Link AV500 Nano Powerline Adapter Kit and then using a gigabit switch in my room. I don't need a high-speed Powerline kit since I am only using it to bring a broadband connection to my room.

I am just worried about the TP-Link units because of what CheekyC said regarding about them going into sleep mode, however I am not sure this issue won't affect me because at least one client PC is on all the time so there is always network traffic. If I can find a cheaper Powerline kit then I will get that.

I have tried it twice.
it didn't work as the premises was 3 phase. EoP does nto work across phases.

Wow man, thanks I would've gotten me 2x Ethernet over powerline adapters now that you mentioned it doesn't work across phases, I'd rather stay away from it.
