Do you know if they are going to follow suite with the new packages? I've tried contacting them via their web site and direct mail. No response.

If they aren't following suite, then i guess it's time for a jump back to iBurst proper.

I've been asking Shaun and Jannie the same question and their responses seemed to indicate that it would happen. Hopefully THIS month.

I won't go to iBurst proper. If MWEB does not change to the new packages I'll drop MWEB and iBurst and go ADSL route. I'll keep my email account at MWEB.

Thanks.
Unfortunately ADSL is not an option for me.
I switched from iBurst proper because Mweb was cheaper and i'd had my same email address with them since 1993 through all the mergers and buyouts (icon, tiscali, worldonline, mweb).
Then when they switched me they couldn't link the iBurst account to my existing account (for some domain reason or some such) so they were charging me for the extra mailbox anyway, so i dropped it.
Now, if they are slow on the uptake with these new packages i'd rather flip back to iBurst proper. The service might be ultra-retarded, but at least it's cheaper, which is my main objective at the moment. From my experience this past year, MWeb's service isn't much better anyway and with iBurst proper, they can't play the 'blame-them' game.

I'm also a customer of an iBurst reseller - Tradepage - and they've indicated to me via email that iBurst will be upgrading my account as well.

I think I will fall into the phase 2 transition that Jannie was talking about (higher-end packages).

Just shows how slack Mweb is then if they aren't even aware of the package migrations.

The problem is trying to get through that well-oiled defensive line that is 'Customer Support'.
When i switched at the start of the year, it took them two weeks to get me up and running and that was only because i managed to finally get through to a tech that knew what he was doing. It's just pot-luck.
So Mweb or iBurst proper, it's 6 of one, half-a-dozen of the other.

I'm also with MWEB, and these are the golden rules for dealing with them:

1) Never try to contact them through website or e-mail
2) If you want to know anything, call the techinal support line, they are more informed about everything you might possibly want to know

Mweb is expensive, but I have found their service to be great... if you call them :) But not really any big problems I can remember, and I've been using them since they bought iAfrica

EDIT: I'm on ADSL though, recently got the 4mb Unshaped 4gig deal, its niiiiiicccccccceeeeeeee, was on 384k before

Noted. :)

Thanks Boomstomp.
When i was on ADSL i never had much of a problem with them either, though that was before Mweb bought Worldonline. It just seems that when you do have a problem, that almost everyone there is totally clueless.
I'll try your tech line approach.

Wondering the same thing here. Want to downgrade my iburst to the (new) 1GB package, in case of emergency and to use elsewhere. After an email andtwo phone calls, finally got the migration form (which was the wrong one, she sent me the m2m to 24month migration form...), but on it is still the old prices.

I enquired about only hosting my email addresses there, and the sales guy (after blabbering through all my addresses and aliases) said it'll be R55/box  which would cost me MORE than if I just keep my iburst account (on the new 1GB) there and do my ADSL hopping elsewhere...

At least the last lady I spoke to was very friendly and she seemed to have been talking with a smile...

Yep, R55.00. That's why i just let my 1993 address go, it wasn't worth it, heaven's forbid they actually give their long standing clients anything for free.

Oh well, got my own domain address now, so any kind of misguided brand loyalty is over. Now it's purely based on service/cost.

I am still on the old package. I'll phone them on monday again if its still not updated by then.

The interesting thing is, way back when I signed up with Global (think I still have Global coffee mug somewhere), they offered FIVE free email ACCOUNTS (not aliases), and more if you asked nicely.

Thankfully mweb either hasn't realised this or just allows it because of all the takeovers (global > worldonline > mweb), as I still have more than one account, but only pay for basic iburst service.

Oh well, thankfully it's easy to just set up a Google Apps account, buy a domain and be done with it. Free email! Thus far I've never had any problems with domains where email is hosted by Google.

ok, just got a phone call from MWEB support. You have to email them saying what package you want to be on and then they'll migrate you. Apparantly they dont actively sell iburst anymore, they are only supporting the current user base. I wonder how long before they tell us its not supported at all anymore.
