Anyone using www.playon.tv?

Spent time on Discovery last night. Lots to watch, but mainly in the way of Clips. They do seem to be full length episodes though as not Clips as I imagine a clip to be. Just not really organised into full length series.

I have to admit though that since getting Hulu+ working with my normal credit card the family have not gone into PlayOn much. They go straight to Hulu+.
My son likes PlayOn option because of the amount of content to choose from. I think he will discover the majority of the gems in there. He has a lot more patience to browse around.

Ye - edited my post yesterday dude.

It is stock standard .mp4.

It prefixes the movie/tv show with a splash screen showing your name and a PlayLater blurb. Only for 2 or 3 seconds. Then rest carries on as normal. It even records adverts :)

Thanks man, props for supplying all the info, once i have uncapped again im definitely gonna go this route.

The one thing that is bothering me is the series seasons arent full or seasons are missing. Do they ever update? Seems like I will have to keep doing my downloads with the Hulu and Netflix.

I am thinking along the same lines. I don't think this is a complete replacement.

With Hulu+, Netflix and the options in PlayOn I envision downloading mainly the stuff the kids watch as they will watch it when I am gaming and I don't want cartoons streaming and affecting my ping - lol.
And of course download stuff not available anywhere on the streaming services.

It will certainly reduce my daily downloads overall.

Reducing downloads will be a bonus. Like the movies and Discovery and History channels. That will be used a lot. Luckily no kids :)

I'd be very interested to hear what the content is like and whether it is complete on the channels listed for the premium version as shown here:

http://www.playon.tv/content-channels

So guys, please share with us once you've explored further. :)

I've just had a read through the playon site. Playon is in essence a modified Internet Explorer browser and so just streams whatever free content (in the case of the free channels) is available on the particular network's/channel's website. So whatever is there when you browse to the site with your internet browser is what will be available in PlayOn. PlayOn does not have any agreement with the networks. So don't expect complete and full seasons from the free channels. Seems consistent with what the guys here are experiencing?

By the way, you can download PlayOn lite for free. It gives you a good idea as to what type of content you can expect. Go to the channels tab and click on the links to see what is available. Obviously you won't be able to stream the premium channels with PlayOn.

I walk into my son's bedroom yesterday (he is 8) and he is laying there watching 1000 ways to die (don't ask) on Hulu+ via his XBox.

My head starts trying to figure this out.
His XBox is localised to SA and his XBL account is SA. Huh? WTF?
So I ask him how he got it working there cause I have not set anything up on his console yet (only mine).

Using PlayOn Dad.

As him how he knew to use PlayOn and he says cause we using it on the Roku in the lounge.
So little guy goes hunting the app store on his console, finds the app, and gets streaming in his room. No UnoTelly, no USA XBL account, no USA regional settings on his console. I did wonder if it would work like this but not tested yet cause everywhere I use PlayOn I also use a native Hulu+ account so UnoTelly configured already.

What I am trying to say with my long winded blurb is - if my 8 year old boy can get this working - anyone can. Nice easy solution to streaming anywhere and it seems you only need UnoTelly where the PlayOn server is running. Bonus.

I've got a wierd one.
I was using Playon as a media server with my WD TV Live - only one that did not give any issues.
Then I bought Premium - was quite impressed with it and already use Unotelly for Netflix :)
Everything worked once - Cracle, SyFy, Food Network, Disney. Then my media server was rebooted. Now everything gives a 'No Media in the Current Folder' message. What gives?
Windows 8, Windows Firewall, Windows Defender.

Yoh. That's a *** one dude. First thing u would do is a complete uninstall, reboot and reinstall.

Took a while - Playon's online-support is the best I have ever seen (And I am in IT)
If you have a issue you log it from the console app under the general tab. You tell them what the problem is and the app sends them your log file (A very obfuscated one, I checked)
5 minutes later I had a email from a Chris at Playon with suggestions what could be at fault.
A little debugging later - Windows Defender was part of the problem - had to exclude the MediaMall Server.
And most importantly - the service has to run as Administrator. Very easy to fix in Windows 8's new task manager. Running like a charm now.

Worth every cent.

Don't forget that if your internet connection slows down or rather the content buffers. Then your download will also be either damaged or will be jumpy!

I was wondering about that. I wrote to PlayOn support and received this reply;

PlayOn Support (Chris), Apr 26 11:23 (EDT):

Hello,

There are no video files to download. PlayLater records the video stream. It's the same video stream you can view by visiting the website and playing the video in your web browser. If the video has to pause to buffer, then that will be in the recording. It's just like how a DVR will record video artifacts and other things while recording a a cable TV program.

Kind regards,

Chris

Hey Guys!

I just want to clear up some stuff. Apologies if the question have been answered before. I have a Roku 3 and Windows 7 PC.

1. Do you need to install Playon on the PC and on the Roku for it to work on Roku or is the Playon Channel on the Roku enough to get it working.

2. Seeing that I have a Roku which has Netflix and Hulu channels wouldn't it be better to just stream it directly through these channels and not via Playon? Buffering, quality and all that stuff?

3. Has anyone been able to get superusvoxtv working on Playon? How is it?

Thanks!

1. PlayOn is a server that needs to be installed on a PC. It serves streams via a PlayOn client (like the PlayOn channel on the roku) or via DLNA for clients with no PlayOn client but do support DLNA.

2. Yes, better to stream with the native clients if your streamer supports them. I do it this way on my Roku's .

3. Never tried it. Sorry.

Is there a significant difference between the content available on NoWhereTV versus PlayOn? DVR recording aside of course.

Hi Peoples!

I installed superusvoxtv on playon and it has quite a few nice channels including Sky Sports 3 & 4 which shows (apparently) the super 15 rugby games. Problem however is I have never gotten any of them to load correctly. It keeps telling me I should restart the play on channel and then it should work.

Does anyone have the same problems?

Does anyone know of an playon add on for sports which actually works and includes rugby?

Thanks!

So I just discovered this.

Currently I use Netflix and Unotelly to watch Netflix on my PS3.

I want to be able to watch Hulu (not Hulu+) cos it's free on my PS3. PlayON is apparently the way to go. Anyone doing this?

Also, for the channels that do Live Sports. Do I need to pay? I wanna watch F1.
