Im looking at www.yakyak.co.za for voip at home and at our offices and i wanted to know if anyone else if using them

From what i can see, they are local and can provide me with a SIP account(s)

Im going to email them anyway, but please let me know if you have used them, or are using them, and your experience so far

I registered with them 1 month ago. Support is slow and weak.
I have a trixbox machine (asterisk based), i cant make it work with the settings they gave me and they have not provided any help so far (i did ask!!).

Their softphone also doesnt work.

Waste of my money.

And in case you are wondering

I did register just to anwer you. Heh, i actually found this thread by searching for yakyak.co.za on Google.

A desperate attempt to find a solution to my own problem with their service!

I've been using them for about a month now and so far so good. Harry seems to help as much as he can but their support is a little slow.

But, from a SIP perspective it's working great. I have a DrayTek 2910VG that works perfectly with iBurst. I can make and receive calls without problems. Sometimes the iBurst is bad (especially when the weather is bad) but that's wireless i guess.

Whats the problem you are having, maybe i can help.

Well, the problems i have are:

1) i cant make it work with Trixbox, its not working with the settings i tried and since i got no help, i just stopped there and cant proceed further.

2) calls i make with the softphone, dont work. They either call the phone and when picked up i cant speak/hear anything OR the call dont go thru at all.

At home i have a Linksys WRT54GL router and at the office i have a DLINK router. I'm not sure there's anything to do with the firewall properties, MSN, Skype and Gtalk works fine (if that means anything).

On the trixbox side, i'd have to try setup a machine to play with it. I don't have a PBX type of setup, just two lines at home... i'll play around and see what i can do. I'll also email Harry and ask him about it.

For your current routers, try enabling Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) which assist with opening up the dynamic ports for RTP (Real-Time Protocol)

It's important to understand how SIP works. SIP used TCP 5060 for signaling and call setup and termination. RTP is the actual voice component, which uses UDP ports.

If your signaling is working (which seems to be the case) then you have an RTP problem.

Have you confirmed that you are using their recommended RTP ports - 16385 - 32000 (UDP)

They also have a STUN server. It's not documented, but you can use stun.rheid.com

If any of your devices have STUN support, use theirs as it makes things so much easier.

STUN = Simple Traversal of UDP through NATs (Network Address Translation)

There are 4 main types of NAT and STUN assist to figure out which one your devices (routers) are using.

Also make sure you read their FAQs, since they do offer some technical information.

I hope this helps. I'm fairly comfortable with SIP, so if you need help just PM me.

Thanks mclovin.

You can try with Trixbox CE from http://www.trixbox.org/downloads .

You can even get the vmware version if you dont have an extra machine around.

Meanwhile i'll see if can get anything with your suggestions.
I did check the FAQ, but didnt found much there.

Hows things going?

I got VMware running but had some issues with Trixbox. I've built a small machine for playing and testing, so once i've for my account working with Trixbox, i'll let you know.

I see they added some extra configuration stuff on their website for Zoiper and X-Lite. They are getting around to it, albeit slowly :)

If you have made progress, let me know if i can help with anything.
