Hey Guys after switching to Linux mint when Unity was launched and irritated the hell out of me that is the only distro I have been using at home and work. However Mint was also starting to irritate me with always doing weird things on my notebook. So I tried ZorinOS (after recommendation from one of my colleagues).

It is quite impressive, I recommend to any Ubuntu or Mint users out there.

Zorin is an awesome OS. I just recently installed that on a friend's PC, who isn't very computer literate, and he picked it up without a problem. Unfortunately there was a problem with the ethernet connection so I had to return to Ubuntu, but that is also a fantastic OS. Also a tip for everyone using Zorin- don't ever drag shortcuts when trying to pin them onto the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. It causes chaos- making the time and everything else on the right hand side disappear every time you start the computer. That's one thing about ubuntu, it's as stable as you can get. There are none of those silly little glitches.

What was irritating you about Ubuntu? A lot has changed since Unity first launched. 16.04 even allows you to move the taskbar to the bottom of the screen.

Another distro I really enjoyed was Deepin. I used it for about a year, before switching back to Ubuntu.

I'm actually loving Fedora as a Linux desktop nowadays.

I use Fedora or OpenSUSE for work. Both are great!

I like Zorin - it is my go-to distro.

In fact, at work we have little need for most of our users to be on 'doze so it makes sense for them to be on a free OS. All they need is spreadsheets, email and a browser. When I started here, it was Ubuntu that was the flavour of the week. When I showed the okes Zorin, we made the switch here - almost every *nix user is on Zorin.

I have the ultimate edition at home on my HP Micro 54 - generally, it is a pleasure and if you're going to spend money on an OS, the €10 for ultimate is not a bad ask. The differences are not that worth it though but the pleasure one gets from funding this OS is...

#1: Zorin OS Core is free - Ultimate requires you to make a donation to obtain.
#2: Zorin OS Core has fewer applications installed compared to Zorin OS Ultimate.
#6: The Zorin Look Changer has only 3 options in Zorin OS Core but has 6 options in Zorin OS Ultimate.

The taskbar does do some interesting things, I found removing bits and adding them back solves the problem most of the time. Seems only to happen on my notebook though.

I have played around again with Ubuntu and Unity is much better I must admit, that was my main gripe. However Zorin uses compiz which I really like.

I removed the taskbar altogether, restarted and zorin wouldn't start at all. Fortunately I managed to get it back through the recovery console, but it took a while, and there was a lot of cursing going on :D At least after that everything started working again.

One thing I must say that they all need to change is the way num lock always disappears on startup. That is so annoying. I know there is a way around it, but your average user isn't going to dig through system files to find a solution
