Hi

I bought this AOpen speakers at Sybaritic.

As I needed only small USB speakers, I thought that was sufficient. Out of the box, it sucks, when the volume is turned up more than 40%, there are lots of noise and distortions.

Is there something I can do to change it, or is just crap speakers or are mine faulty.

(On the box of the speakers high quality sound and low noise levels are stated).

Seriously, you can't pay R95 for a set of speakers and expect them to be any good. I am sure they play Windows sounds schemes okay.

It's a case of you get what you pay for with speakers.

I used R5
Sahara speakers for 3 years, until it broke. The sound was clear and was quite hard. I only expected the Aopen speakers to be as good as them...

Just figured that it's only the one side that's giving me problems.

I bought Aopen speakers and they were good for the price, i.e. not good, but just not bad for R150. Of course, if only one side is problematic then it could be a faulty speaker or wire. Try wiggle the wire at the back of the speaker and see if the noise gets worse....

Well, after putting down the volume of the left speaker to 20%, I was satisfied with the sound.

But it is disturbing only to hear sound out of one speaker.

I don't have money now for good speakers, so if something is audio intensive, I use earphones. Thanks for the links though.

I opened the problematic speaker, but nothing looked wrong. Will try the other speaker later.

Do the speakers make a noise when the Windows volume is turned all the way down and the speaker volume is turned all the way up? Should give some indication if they are producing a noise on their own.

You should turn the sound all the way down in Windows (don't mute it), then turn the volume all the way up on the speakers, then slowly turn the volume up in Windows again. That way you can get the best comfortable volume out of it and also find out at what point the audio clips. Many times it is just clipping that's producing the bad sound because the incoming audio signal (either analogue or the USB fed info) has got way too high an amplitude.
