I saw in a pigspotter tweet that AP Electronics in Commissioner street Johannesburg had a fire this morning.
I cannot find more info than that tweet.

Why not pick up a phone and phone them?
Ask for Jacques, he is the owner. Won't give cell number here as that is not kosher

Got an email today:

Subject: The Building of AP Electronics Burned Down Satuday 20Th July 4H00 AM

I would like to inform you that our AP Electronics Building and its content at 434 Commissioner Street Burned Down in the early hours of this 20Th July, Saturday Morning.

This seems to be the result of a break-in where new laptop and displays were stolen, together with other goods.

Please Could you go on our AP Electronics Facebook pages to follow us.

We will post progress on rebuilding our company on these pages. Please like us on Facebook to motivate us in these difficult times.

Your suggestions for priority in rebuilding are most welcome.

If you wish to receive an e-mail automatically to let you know the progress and/or when we re-open, please send me a short e-mail to receive the latest status report about the rebuilding of AP.

Best Regards,
Jacques

There we go. I got that e-mail. Only found it this morning trapped in the spam filter

Hopefully and I very much doubt that the insurance, if any will pay very much unfortunately.

Well yes, that shop was in a very dodgy part of town. I stopped going there when they tried to steal my car just seconds after I entered the shop

Ooops, was that your car? (I work in that area of Town! :p)

I thought that Alan Pon (Chinese) was the owner hence the initials AP. Did he sell the business?

I just looked at their Facebook page and was shocked to see what these poor people have had to deal with. I really hope that they manage to rebuild the business somehow. The future for retail business owners in SA really does look bleak.

Alan Pon's family sold the business to Jacques Botte a few years ago already. I know these people personally. Jacques knows me because one of his mates was my boss at the time. In any event Alan knew me since I was 13.

Yes they had to deal with a lot, I have told them numerous times that the area is not safe, I mean I was nearly relieved of my vehicle within 30 seconds of entering the shop. I had to buy a new door lock as a result.
