I have an oldish APC UPS that has served me very well.

Seems a problem has now started with the UPS switching from mains to battery every few seconds. Devices connected to it work without hassle.

Thinking it was the batteries, I replaced them and the problem persists.

Tried calling APC help desk which ends up in a call centre in Cairo, Egypt.

me : do you have a repair centre in Cape Town ?
APC support : Yes, we have a repair centre in South Africa.

Rinse and repeat about 5 times !!!!

I eventually get info that the repair center is in Midrand ....... I am in Cape Town.

So if any forumite can put me in touch with someone who can repair the UPS in Cape Town, preferbly in the Southern Suburbs, that would be awesome.

I stay away from APC these days as my in warranty UPS I cannot even get serviced - schneider electric are extremely hard to deal with and refuse to come out and look at the unit.

There are APC schematics on the Internet. Search and give it to a friend experienced in electronics. It could be a simple problem with dried out capacitor in the mains voltage detection circuit.
