Aperture 3

I took the plunge as the exchange rate is ok, and downloaded Aperture 3 from the Apple Apps site. I paid R540.79 for the $79.99 application. I think this is really good value for money in SA.
My only question is what happens if one has to reinstall - as no file is downloaded and no Product Key is provided. It also is not reflected as a purchase. Any ideas?

Amazing how quickly the exchange rate went down the toilet. Thankfully you can get Aperture for free now.

Other free software you can try is Phocus. This is Hasselblad's answer to Lightroom, although naturally Hasselblad claim that theirs is superior. On a Mac this allows for the editing of all RAW formats. On a Windows PC it is limited to jpg and tiff.

The software only supplies features for photo editing - no graphic design functionality.

Apple still seems to think it's $80

Fwiw it's worth every penny. I just wish they'd update it already!

According to that it's rather hit or miss.

If you read that thread, no one posted that it doesn't work. One guy bought it first before reading the thread. I tried it last week, again, on a friend's Mac and it worked perfectly fine.

And no one posted that it did work either. :p Anyway - Aperture is not free - although until they update it they should make it free.

You missed my point: saying that it's "rather hit and miss" implies that it worked for some and didn't work for others. Since no one reported that it didn't work and I reported that it did, there's no "miss". Just a "hit".

However, I do agree with you that Aperture needs an upgrade. The good news is that if you get this "free" version now, you will get a free upgrade later when Apple decide to update Aperture.
