I have a problem with the Internet and Vlive APN, when I input the proxy setting 196.6.128.12 and port 8080 I cannot hit the sites that I need to. I have a number of collogues that are able to reach these sites. The logic behind the proxy is that the connection needs to be routed through the WAP Gateway to pass the MSISDN through the headers. (FYI) I can reach the site if I remove the proxy but there is no MSISDN in the headers) PLEASE HELP:confused:

- What handset are you using?

- Do you need to use the proxy? Won't a direct connection be better?

3g thanks for comming back to me, I am on an N70, I need to use the proxy as I have to get the MSIDN in the headers, I am accessing a box that is within corp park but available on the internet & Vlive APN

Not sure I understand this 100%, my interpretation is that you are trying to use your N70 cellphone to connect to essentially an IP address somewhere on the internet, and you want your cellphone to go through one of Vodacom's proxy servers as the proxy server currently adds your MSISDN to the http headers, which an application running on the box associated with the IP address you're attempting to connect to, would then use to authenticate that it is your cellphone being used to access that IP address, is this correct?

I assume that you're attempting this due to not being able to get a VPN client to run on your cellphone?

N70 should have no problems....

Try 196.6.128.6 on port 9201 or

196.6.128.13 on port 8080

IC almost right the application I am trying to connect to requires my MSISDN to be passed to it in the headers, I am wanting to use the Vodacom Internet of Vlive APN to connect, however if I do not use the proxy settings in the APN the connection is made without any MSISDN being passed. We are connecting succesfully on other numbers using this method it is only a few phones that we are having the problems

Proxy problem

3g thanks for the response tried them both the 196.6.128.6 on port 9201 give me connetion setting errors and the other give me a web session time out

If you are expecting the MSISDN to be 100% proof of who is accessing the application via the Internet, then I have to advise against this as anyone can duplicate what Vodacom's proxy server puts into the http headers.

I don't know if there are any VPN client applications that will run on the cellphones in question, but I recommend trying that if you need a secure authentication solution.

Proxy

IC thanks for the message we have other forms of auththenication included the problem is particulary my apn issue

BTW, Vodacom does do custom corporate APNs - basically a VPN via APN, which might be more appropriate, v3g is the best person to speak to about that.
