Apple and Google suffer big EU antitrust defeats

It was a dark day for Apple Inc. and Google as they lost two of the biggest competition cases in European Union history.

Apple suffered a defeat over an EU-ordered €13 billion (R256.42 billion) Irish tax bill and Google faltered over its challenge of a €2.4 billion (R47.34 billion) fine for abusing its search market power.

Might be dark for them, but its really bright for the rest of us who actually care about our data and who it gets sold to. Nothing as nice as watching an uncaring bully get brought to his knees.

The EU is a bit legislate to the tech party. I don't see it competing against the US by slapping them with fines because they feel like it. Reminds me of MC in SA, and of Nigeria. Big companies will simply make changes to maximize their ROI.
