Apple working on low-cost MacBooks

Apple is working on a series of low-cost MacBooks to compete with Chromebook models, using "different materials" and lower-cost components, DigiTimes reports.

The outer shell of the MacBooks will still use a metal casing, and DigiTimes' industry sources say it could launch as early as the second half of 2024.

Probably would be quite easy for them to do:
1080p screen
M1 chip
8GB Ram
128GB storage + microsd card slot
Make it a bit thicker to put in a cheaper keyboard and cheaper, less dense battery
If they can get the price to less than $500, it pretty much would be it for other laptops in that price range.

While Apple's silicon is making some deep footprints, costs to enter this "exclusive" platform is still too damn high.
I suspect their "budget" Macbooks will be still expensive, because Apple.

As a software dev, I would rather stick with Intel for now.

You can get a secondhand M1 Mac mini for R8k or even cheaper.

They’ve already sold cheaper iPhones for years, so don’t see why they wouldn’t have cheaper MacBooks eventually. And they’d definitely outsell the competition, because Apple.
