Apple extinguishes FireWire

This is merely speculation that came up last week. And the thinking is that FW 400 will be dropped and only FW 800 will remain

They dropped firewire in the ipod for space reasons and because the vast majority of ipod owners are pc owners.

Regardless, fw800 is backward compatible so it really doesnt make much of a difference to me as I wold just need new cables.

Still - It would be a shame if they did away all together with firewire - for a lot of things, expecially external hdd's, even the 400 trounces usb2 even though on paper it shouldnt.

They wouldn't get rid of FireWire completely. It is needed for the iSight, many ext HDD's and almost all DV Cameras

Agreed wrt the dv cameras but what if the new ibooks/powerbooks come with iSight built in like the new iMac?
