Here's a question, will the iPhone fit into my iPod HiFi thing to play music on?

You see the thing is, the people getting it here are buying from At&t because apple is only supplying them, so $399 * 7 (rough) = 2800. Add to that 20% Customs Duty and 14% VAT so thats R3192 Inc Vat + 560 Customs = R3752, then we need to add a little something for shipping costs say R300 which takes us to a little over 4k. Then the phone still needs to be unlocked, which is R500 for the software - that makes it 4.5k and whoever is selling it wants some profit.

There was a seller on Bidorbuy who started an auction for 2 iPhones at R5150 - he closed the auction with a bid for R5600 and a bid for R5500 I think. I think as long as I pay under 6k, I'll be happy with it.

Have2have is still selling it for R4900, locked but they dont have stock for the next 3 weeks or something...So they wouldn't reduce their price while demand is still strong.

I am trying to organise one coming in next week - the seller wants to charge me R6000 but I'll negotiate.

What is the point of importing a product and selling it to break even ????
you wasting your time ... anyways as for unlocking the device, good luck with that ... i pulled my hair out for quite sometime. getting hold of the actual files needed to do the job is the nightmare esp if you dont have a premium account with rapid share.
moddifiying the iPhone is nowhere near as simple as it is with a WM device.
After the Firmware has been altered you simply cannot run the old firmware to restore the device to its initial state as your BaseBand remains altered. Dont let me put you off, all i am saying is it really easy to get it wrong and go backwards, just hope you dont have to re-Virginise a device .. it then becomes a biatch.

I have played with one for a little bit and I would ditch Nokia in a second to get my hands on one of those puppies.

Are you kidding? Nokia is way ahead of the game, and the iPhone couldn't compare. Just kidding. I still couldn't possibly spend that much money for a phone that I am guaranteed to drop at least 10 times a year. Plus I couldn't have a phone that is worth more than my car, I would just feel a bit ridiculous. However, when the new iPhone 2.0 comes out, and the new design lets you ride it to work, I will probably consider it, but until then, it's out. Great features, it's just not for me.

Here is a question for other Apple iPhone owners:

All my numbers in outlook are stored 082 xxx xxxx. Now, with the iPhone...if someone calls me from that number, I see on screen +27 82 xxx xxxx and it doesn't pull up their contact name or picture. I then saved a few numbers in the +27 82 format, and then it DOES pull up the contact card. Am I doing something funny, or must I just go change all my number to +27 82 etc

Maybe because it is a US localised phone its recognising that your numbers arent in the usual format. All my numbers are in the + country code format anyway for when I travel.

Yup...some of mine are, some aren't. I think I am just going to sift through the whole phone book and change them...then it's problem solved!

I am syncing them (All my numbers are in Outlook/Exchange Server). I thought there might be a way to change all the numbers in Outlook to international format, but I can't find it...so...Just gonna change them manually, only 500 numbers or so.
