Great user experience and very responsive, but no ActiveSync, so it's useless to me. :(
Yeah - it's unlikely to have Microsoft's proprietary software on it

Um, several non-WM manufactures (e.g. Nokia) have licensed ActiveSync, and there was a lot of speculation that Apple would do the same. I don't see what is so bizarre about this.

So whats your verdict?
are you also going to use it as a secondary phone like V3G?
...are you going to change your sig to Apple iPhone Junkeee:eek:?

my take on the i-Phone is ...............

The interface on the iPhone is in a class of its own. The Touch Flo GUI has nothing on the iPhone. The impressive part for me is, even with all the 3D animated visuals the interface brings to the party, the device is super responsive and silky smooth.
the Browser ( Safari as it is called ) gives you the ability to open Multiple pages which you flip through by dragging you finger left or right on the screen. Changing your zoom levels on a web page is quick, easy and at the same time mind blowing, place your thumbs on the area you want to zoom in on and pull them apart or push your thumbs together to zoom out. Scrolling through a web page is precise and super smooth, if you scroll to far, part of the page goes past the end of the screen and bounces back. The same operation on the Touch seems extremely mechanical in comparison.
while using the browser to change your view from portrait to landscape simply turn the device and your view changes. the on screen keyboard turns into a quite a usable thumb keyboard in Landscape view ( but this only applies to the browser )
SMS, e-mail etc can only be used in portrait mode ( as far as i know ) this makes life a tad bit awkward using the virtual keyboard, at this point i really miss my trusty Stylus and the transcriber input option on the WM OS.
With iTunes on my XP machine i had no problem synchronizing my PIM data.
the e-mail client has pre-loaded settings for Yahoo mail, Gmail, .mac and AOL. Popping my e-mail didnt go to smoothly ( there where loads of hampering factors for me at least )
Over the weekend i am will be configuring a Virtual Imap server on our Exchange 2003 server and monitor the device performance with push mail .

I will update the progress later.

For now, i am really impressed with what the Apple boys have achieved on this device, the Interface is truly impressive. on the Media side of things you pretty much have your iPod in 3D, searching through a couple of gigs worth of music is a pleasure.

I have to give credit where it is due, the iPhone is awesome.

@ Ivan as for me changing my sig ... it aint gonna happen, the iPhone lacks business features which are abundant on the Windows Mobile platform ... my WM devices are all tireless workers that i cannot do without .... in terms of productivity for me the iPhone is about as useful as calling Telkom Support ....

I still maintain the iphone is cr@p, there are other phones which do pretty much the same things it does and with *everything* you will get bored of the fun slidey animations and wish you had a decent interface to enter messages with.

Horses for courses.....

BTW, how long have you been using an iPhone to come up with such an eloquent assessment of the device? :)

Last night, in a restaurant, I had to catch up with a day's work. TyTn for all e-mails and SMS's and iPhone for all browsing. (Safari on the iPhone is the first truly usable browser I've used on a mobile device.)

An iPhone with a slide-out keyboard would do it for me.

I fired up the iPhone 3 days ago ... it is refreshingly different for me, having used and abused everything HTC made since the release of the Qtek 1010 in 2002.

V3G ... you can say that again about Safari ... what a pleasure ... while on the topic, compared to your WM device, the Data useage on the iPhone seems really high for e-mail and browsing.

Exactly what I thought, its pretty, but things that are pretty aren't always functional. Besides I don't want to worry about bricking my phone every time Apple releases an update.

As for your web browsing on WM5/6, *cough* *cough* if you look long and hard enough, you can download Picsel's web browser, its as close as you'll get to the Safari browser, in terms of zoom levels its insane: you can zoom out and have the MyADSL page be smaller than a 2c coin and then zoom in and have just one word cover your entire screen, it runs sweetly on my 201mhz Touch, did I mention all that zooming is done with a one fingered gesture. Unfortunately it doesn't support Flash.

I've ordered one to play with, but I suspect it's not really going to be practical.

You'll always need a flat, smooth surface for it to work (let alone a dark enough environment to see the keys) and most 'mobile' typing is done 'in-your-lap'.

If you have a desk available, you're probably close to your PC in any case.

But a virtual keyboard is one those those toys you must have! :)

Had a look at Picsel's site but can't find a download link?

How do you Zoom in and out with this browser?

What really works on the iPhone is the two-finger expanding and pinching on the relevant part of the screen + panning with just one finger, i.e. I don't need any menus or keys to zoom and navigate.

I find I just hold the iPhone in landscape (i.e. horisontal) and then can do anything with just two thumbs. So it's very fast. Now if I had a slide-out keyboard at the same time.....

Zooming is simple, almost like double clicking with your finger/stylus: you tap once on the area you want to zoom in on, and then quickly tap on that same area and swipe upwards to zoom in or downwards to zoom out. Tap swipe, thats it. Its alot less complicated than it sounds.

As for the link, you wont find it, Picsel only sells their browsers to manufacturers so you wont find it there. You have to do an extensive google search that will lead you down a road of dead download links, because Picsel don't want people sharing it (lawsuits..etc). I'll PM you the download link (have to go look for it)...found it somewhere on XDA Developers.

Got it, tx!

Now if you can get me a download link that'll fix the last serious problem I have with my TyTn, that of a screen that's ABSOLUTELY useless in sunlight, I'd really be grateful! :)

- Reduces glare from sunlight or bright lighting

- Can be washed and replaced

- Improves screen ‘feel’ during stylus use

- Guaranteed to be the best – if you don’t agree, we’ll refund you "

Installed the browser and it looks god, I prefer the iPhone's zoom function that does not require a stylus but it's actually better than what I expected.

@The Guy; you'd better check this out ;) Pretty slick.

@mixit_fan; any way to stop the screen to pan past the edge of the WEB page? It's a bit irritating if you pan and you pan straight past the edge and end up with a grey screen...

The one obvious problem with this app is that one can't actually buy it....
