Apple Ibook G4

I would like to purchase one of these 'Apple Ibook G4' for music production/gigs ect...Any comments about them before I purchase, or anything simular?

PS: Especially from those who are using it for simular purposes...Thanks

Well, I can tell you the iBook/MacBook are fantastic machines. Great build quality and attention to detail. The G4 processor used in the iBook, whilst old, is still a good chip. It is the same chip I have in my Mac Mini, and it is fast.
However, I have used Garageband a couple of times, and you will need at least 1GB of Ram, so make sure about that.

If you can afford the extra price of a new MacBook, rather go for that as the dual core processors will come in usefull

This particular one only has 512RAM can it be upgraded?...I'll be using NI FM7,Absynth 3 as well as Cubase...What about the sound card?, Will I need an external or does it have it's own?...Also would I be able to plug in midi with or without A External Midi interface?...Are you telling me that this model does not have the dual core processor?...

No offense to anyone on this board but disabled - check out forums like Hydrogen Audio....you'd have best of luck finding info regarding music production systems there.

Thanks for the info, I was just checking because I can get one second hand but as it stands if it does not have a dual core processor then it's pointless as music processing requires a lot of memory as well as speed...

The iBook G4 uses as single G4 processor. For dualcore, you should get a MacBook or a MacBook Pro

Thanks I thought so, The big problem I'm having is that I'm only going to get one shot of purchasing the right Notebook, if I mess this up then there's no turning back...Although my PC is perfect for this, it's no fun lugging it around on gigs ect...So I have to be absolutely sure on this one...

Is all the software you use for OsX? If not then get the macbook - it gives the the option of dual booting windows if you find you need it. The iBook is nice but underpowered compared to the new MacBooks or MacBook Pro's.
