Apple ID - no iCloud ?

Yeah, I wouldn't hold my breath for Alexa support in Apple Music, and I can't fault Apple's ALAC but that's just me.

LOL... Not that bad... She's asking me which shortcuts I'd like to run. There's nothing Alexa in the house so there's no automation for reference.
 
Seems that I can do at least 2 concurrent streams on one ID, even if the web says it can’t be done.

But I’m probably going to use one of the family IDs for the reason bwana mentioned

I can control my HomePod and Apple TV and AirPods all in the same way.

No different accords required, unless they are for different people.

You folks are really deeply confusing very simple things here.

I've never encountered a limit wrt how many of my devices can stream Apple Music Songs / albums / playlists. I'll often have music going at home and concurrently be streaming music elsewhere depending on who might be home or out.

Why?

The iCloud is already an Apple ID.

But you don’t need to do any of this with Apple Music. Just use one account everywhere.

You don’t need to Gmail anything, just create a new Apple ID and it makes the corresponding @icloud.com address if you really need one, but it would be far more sensible to actually just give your family their own named accounts accordingly.

My kids each have their own and so does my wife and it all works in perfect harmony.

Alexa is the point of failure here.

It would be nice if Alexa wasn’t her usual braindead self and actually supported different accounts per device/user like the HomePods, then you wouldn’t need any of these work arounds.

Unfortunately can’t test with Alexa as well since it’s in my daughter’s room whose just gone to bed.

I’m getting so used to work arounds with Apple, I’m not too concerned.

Anyway, I’ve said that I tested it and it works, but every bit of media I find says only 1 stream - so the assumption was 1 stream allowed like all other services.

Siri is something I’m not too interested in. I’ve read it’s the worst assistant, so rather stick to what I have

Well everything in this thread was you doing it wrong, which is why you were struggling.

In fairness, it’s not immediately obvious that an individual Apple Music account can do multiple streams.

If it behaved as the documentation says, I’d need the extra Apple ID for Alexa not to interfere

Alexa has had Apple music support for a while, it just wasn't always available for SA Apple Music accounts. It's one of the main reasons we switched to Spotify. That and my kids said the catalogue was better.

Anyway - I'm not moving away from Alexa any time soon due to all the Sonoff switches I have in the house.
