Apple iPad Air 2 unveiled

The new iPad Air 2 is more or less as per normal. The new Retina Display 5K iMac on the other hand looks stunning.

....but wont it bend and crack and stuff being that thin?

I put money down that there will be a video of someone bending an iPad...

Goodbye drop tests, hello bend tests.

They held back touchID on the previous just so it will be part of the selling point now

It's just about the only selling point. That and a new colour.

What else are they going to do - it retina mini is a difficult device to improve upon but they have to at least appear to try.

Suspect mini is on its way out.. Due to sizing of new phones, iPads will become bigger ie air and a new pro.

iPad Air 2 benchmark reveals 3-core CPU and 2GB of RAM

Apple iPad Air 2 made a trip to the popular Geekbench benchmark and revealed juicy bits about itself. The freshly announced full-size tablet from Cupertino sports 2GB of RAM and rather curious 3-core CPU.

While 2GB of RAM are hardly a surprise due to a number of leaks that suggested the memory bump, the CPU setup surely is a curious one. Past iPad models have stuck to a dual-core CPU.
The Geekbench score is quite impressive too - it clearly indicates that the iPad Air 2 is quite a performer. We will reserve final judgements for our full review, but, at a quick glance, the 4477 score is the highest we’ve seen.
Doubling the RAM in the iPad Air 2 is likely a step to accommodate the previously rumored split-screen multitasking. The latter is expected to appear on the slate via a future update.

Man, I can't wait to see what new ideas they come up with in 2013.

iFixit tears down iPad Air 2, gives it poor repairability score

Hot on the heels of the Apple iMac with 5K Retina display, iFixit tore down the iPad Air 2. Cupertino’s full-size tablet received the poor repairability score of 2.

As it turns out, despite being even more elegant, Apple iPad Air 2 is just as difficult to repair as its predecessor. the original iPad Air received the same score from iFixit last year.

The chassis of iPad Air 2 is devoid of screws, so opening it requires skill and dedicated tools. The bonded front panel that facilitates the slate’s svelte body is a hassle to pry too – it disturbs the LCD panel.

Unsurprisingly, the design of the Touch ID sensor cable in the iPad Air 2 closely resembles that of iPhone 6. The newcomer’s 27.62Wh battery on the other hand, is smaller than the 32.9Wh unit of the original iPad Air.

The logic board of the iPad Air 2 reveals Apple APL1012 A8X 64-bit Processor (it has three CPU cores), 2GB of RAM (2 x 1GB), SK Hynix NAND flash, and the same NXP 65V10 NFC Module as the iPhone 6. The digitizer controller is made by Broadcom.

In its repairability score breakdown, iFixit gave props to the iPad Air 2 for having a battery that is not soldered to the logic board. However, fused together LCD display and glass, glued front panel to the rest of the device, and gobs of adhesive throughout, lead to the paltry repairability score.
