Apple Ipad Import Total Cost

Hello Folks,

I am looking at importing my Apple Ipad Wifi + 3G(would prefer the 32gb) , but I need to decide to get it from the USA or UK

From the USA I would also have to make use of a service like "myus" , however from the UK - I have friends that are able to assist me in purchasing and shipping the device to me.

I also know that on the basis of the current exchange rate and the listed prices of the device in the 2 countries the UK version is R1400.00 more.

So folks that have completed this excercise, please would you indicate for me , what the total cost of your purchase was in hand.

I bought two 16GB + 3G. Ordered dock and VGA adapter for each. Costs were :

R9840.94 for Ipads and Accessories
R1900.80 for Customs and Duty
R1260.01 for Fedex International Priority Delivery.

R13001.75 TOTAL

That makes it Approx R6500 each landed and delivered, with proper duties paid.

You can of course get it cheaper if you flag it as a gift etc, but I reckoned it just wasn't worth it so went the whole hog.

Some info that may help you :

Order through Florida address and/or freight forwarder based in Florida - no local GST.
Harmonised Code for Customs is HS 8471.30.007000
Make sure the shipment is clearly marked as "For personal use/NOT for resale"
My package weight was 9.1lbs

Get a Florida address and have it listed as your secondary address on your South African credit card.
I used my Platinum American Express card that is linked to my residential address in Florida.
I ordered it on the Apple website, and had no problems ordering or getting Fedex to ship to SA. They even repacked it for me into one box for free when they collected it in Florida to ship on...

For interests sake, it took 4 days to get to South Africa. Only sat at customs for 18 minutes before it was cleared and sent along. Don't even think of using anyone other than Fedex... It makes life so much easier and they will pay the VAT on your behalf and bill your account. You can also track progress online.

I am in the same situation. But i can get friends to send it over as a gift. Can even say its from my sister since its her birthday soon. So i am going that route.

hi supreme, i can assist you regarding the apple ipad 64g wifi 3g model. i will recieve a used one in a week or two that will retail for about +-R7700, remember these ipad's is barely 4 months old so it is as good as new. a new one will retail for +-R8500. contact me if you're interested.
