Apple iPad mini rumour roundup

Then let me ask you this... Can you point to another tech company that has in the last year, as cerebus pointed out, refreshed a tablet and laptop, who also introduced a new desktop/laptop OS, who are also planning a 7" product launch and an update of their phones as well as a new mobile OS? Also, since we're in a rumor thread, lets not forget that there might be an Apple Television around the corner. I think Tim Cook and the boys are having a stellar year.

Indeed.

The point is: if you're a market leader you need to innovate - perhaps not every year. We know the telecoms industry doesn't stand still. Once competitors catch up with you and you have nothing new to present to the market is cause for concern.

I will not comment about the Apple TV rumor without knowing what it will offer. The fact that all that you indicated are refreshments says a lot.

Please tell us what would you would classify an innovation.

Yes it doesn't qualify as innovation. Any competitor can make an even higher resolution.

Then why aren't they? Why did it take until now for anybody else in the entire marketplace to produce a higher-than-fHD tablet OR laptop? Even the brand-new-iPad-killing-Note2-10.1 tablet is only 1280. It seems obvious in hindsight but the degree of vision and execution that was necessitated to make it happen is very impressive.

Can you claim a patent for a "resolution" as new innovation? But then I'm not an expert on patents. My expectations from Apple are high.
Reg soe.

I am sure spending few seconds on google would answer that question.

Having said that I wouldn't qualify an improvement as innovation. I disputed 'resolution' mentioned earlier as innovation because innovation is not just about doing the same thing better.

Innovation is about doing something that nobody has done before. The retina display is unprecedented in laptops and tablets.

No Seriously, please post your list of innovations, the things that impressed you.

I think it would depend on who is manufacturing the screens. :D

I don't think Samsung will be manufacturing screens for Apple any time in the foreseeable future. I'm not sure if it was this article, but there was mention of Apple having tied the knot with Sony for screens.

So no camera for the ipad mini, to be honest this is probably a feature most will do without. I mean, if you have an ipad 99% chance you also have an iPhone, or heck even one of the Galaxy series mobile phones. Good move by Apple, hopefully keeps the costs down a little.

Where did you get that from because I missed it. Somehow I doubt apple would do something so fundamentally stupid.

Agreed. My source was wrong. The iPad Mini has 2 cameras (front and rear). The interesting thing is the competitors, like the Kindle Fire, has none!
