Apple iPhone 17 thread

iPhone 17 to be an underwhelming upgrade

A few hours ago a rumor claimed the iPhone 17 would grow its screen size to 6.3" (from 6.1" in the iPhone 16), matching the Pro model. With this rather significant upgrade in tow, you may have expected the phone to come with other substantial upgrades in other areas as well.

But apparently not. According to a new research note by GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu, the iPhone 17 will be powered by the A18 chip, and will have 8GB of RAM. Those are not typos - that's the exact same chipset and RAM amount that its predecessor has.

So, in this regard, the iPhone 17 will just be an ever so slightly larger iPhone 16. This is despite the fact that all three other members of its family will get the A19 chip as well as 12GB of RAM. The iPhone 17 was at one point said to be considered for a memory upgrade, but that was apparently decided against after all.

Spigen confirms the iPhone 17 will have a 6.3-inch display

Spigen's store on Amazon India may have inadvertently confirmed the rumors that the upcoming iPhone 17 will get a bigger 6.3-inch display.

The store listed Spigen's popular EZ Fit Tempered Glass Screen Protector Guard as compatible with the iPhone 16 Pro, which has a 6.3-inch screen, the iPhone 17, and the iPhone 17 Pro. If true, then the iPhone 17 and 17 Pro will share the 6.3-inch diagonal. That's an important caveat, as rumors point to different quality panels - the Pro will most likely have superior specs.

In the current lineup, the iPhone 16 has a 6.1-inch display, the 16 Pro has a 6.3-inch display, the iPhone 16 Plus has a 6.7-inch display, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch display.

Hi Apple people. Not sure where to put this so leaving it here. I have no skin in this, just something I came across while watching a podcast. Don't even know what they are talking about.

iPhone 17 Pro series to get repositioned Apple logo

Apple may be looking to change more than the camera islands on its iPhone 17 Pro series as leakster Majin Bu is now confident that the Apple logo on the back is getting repositioned. The logo on the 17 Pro series would be positioned lower, and Apple is apparently also changing the placement of its MagSafe charging coil, which will now go around the iconic bitten apple.

This would be the first logo repositioning since the iPhone 11 series which ushered in the current logo position. There’s no mention of the vanilla iPhone 17 or Air models getting the repositioned Apple logo for now.

iPhone 17 Pro Max's battery capacity rumored to be larger than its predecessor's

The iPhone 17 Pro Max will come with a larger battery than its predecessor's 4,685 mAh cell. According to a new rumor out of China today, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will finally be the first iPhone to reach 5,000 mAh.

As you may know, that's pretty much been the default capacity for flagship Android devices up until recently, when Chinese brands started using Si/C batteries thus taking them past that limit, while Samsung and Google have been content to stay around the 5,000 mAh mark, for now at least.
