Apple iPhone 17 thread

My main gripe is the slow keyboard. Whether in a 3rd party app or the iOS messaging app, it's so slow and laggy. How has iOS26 been out since September and they still haven't fixed this!?!
Woah, that is not good, keyboard has been pretty fast for me both on 15 Pro Max and 17 Pro Max.

I haven’t noticed any keyboard lag at all, are you using the stock keyboard or third party?

The iPhone 17 is a brilliant phone, I love mine. But I still feel it's being let down by iOS26. iOS 18 on this would be a match made in heaven imo.
I agree. But my favourite version of iOS, and yeah you can laugh, was iOS 14.8. Zero issues, Zero bugs, nothing. It was polished to the nth degree.

Very interesting take by Marques, if I am not mistaken there are a few phones that have had these Silicon Carbon batteries for a number of years with no issues reported…yet, like the Honor Magic 5 Pro. I have read that some manufacturers are putting heavy restrictions on these devices with these new batteries, lowering the charging capacity significantly but due to them being so large it’s possibly still not noticeable by users.

Makes me wonder if maybe the Silicon Carbon Batteries are not also more significantly expensive per unit? The likes of Samsung and Apple are very sensitive about profit margins so that could be a factor too.

Anyway, very happy with the battery life on my 17 Pro Max, it has been outstanding, but I do wonder how much more amazing it would have been with a 6000mAh Silicon Carbon Battery..

I'm considering jumping ship from Samsung to Apple
(S21 Ultra to Iphone 17 Base)

Should I be looking at getting from the Istore, Takealot or Amazon SA?
This will be my first apple product

Doesn't really matter where you buy from - get it at the cheapest place
iStore still carries the warranty if bought from a local retailer / etailer
The one caveat is when buying directly from the iStore, they sometimes offer free iCare. However, if you're insuring it, it doesn't matter.

Sidenote - Check out Incredible as they offer an additional year warranty on iPhones

Anyone dealt with a screen replacement for the iPhone 17? I booked an appointment with the iStore and only when I got there that they said they didn't stock the screen and it takes 5 working days to order and repair. On top of that, they will not order in stock without the customer leaving their phone there - so you have to be without your phone for a week.
