I feel the same, really poor service.
I e-mailed a complaint, ordered the phone on takealot and received my phone prior to the iStore response.
 
i picked burgundy on the avo site when they got stock on friday. was kicking myself for missing out on the preorders last week. couple hours later a lady phoned me to say their supplier doesn’t have any and no idea when they’ll have, but they do have black, so thought i’d just get a burgundy cover then.

which leads me to my next question:
what cover/case you all getting?
 
I got the chambray blue tech woven. Expensive, but paid for it with eBucks. In fact I also paid about 1/3 of the devices cost with eBucks. Helped bear the pain of going with 512gb after initially pre-ordering a 256gb.

popped in at the istore to see if they can tell me what techwoven feels like, but they directed me to some cheap-feeling plastic case and said it feels like that. istore staff really do a kak job of selling things to people. they’re lucky their stock basically sells itself, otherwise i don’t know how they’d stay open.

not sure if i should splash out on the techwoven or silicone one. i currently have a no-name silicone one on my 15 for about 2.5years now and i like the way it feels.
 
Don't know if mentioned, but the 1tb+ versions use QLC nand chips which naturally has poor write performance when writing [very] large files,

I’ve never used the original Apple silicone case, in fact I always used third part cases in the past.
I managed to get a feel of the techwoven case at an Apple Store last year when a colleague purchased the 17 Pro Max and I liked it.

I like the feel, it’s light and grippy enough.
It’s not going to offer the best protection though.
 
We used to get a new phone every two years back in the day, what does that work out for a new flippy phone?

The pricey 1TB and 2TB iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max found to use very slow memory

The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max last year introduced a 2TB storage tier. Just like them, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are available in four configurations: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. Something has changed, however, and it is the type of storage used. In a video on BiliBili, Homolab compared two 18 Pro Max phones, one with 512GB storage and one with 1TB.

Apparently, the 256GB and 512GB Pro models use TLC flash – each memory cell fits three bits. However, the 1TB and 2TB models use QLC – four bits per memory cell. QLC is known to be slow, so Apple added a fast SLC cache (one bit per cell), followed by a TLC cache and then the QLC bulk storage.

That works well until it doesn’t. In the tests, the SLC cache could sustain write speeds of up to 3,000MB/s. But once it’s filled up, the phone starts writing to its TLC cache, which is slower but still respectable at 578MB/s. And once both levels of cache are full, the phone goes to the QLC storage that only manages 79.4MB/s with dips to 25.6MB/s.

This is while the storage is empty, when the SLC cache is 250GB. But once storage starts to fill up, the size of the cache shrinks – at 60% storage used, the SLC cache is only 58GB. The TLC and QLC memories get similarly filled up and they become slower too.

Homolab’s measurements at 60% storage used show 396MB/s for the TLC cache and an abysmal 1.1MB/s for the QLC storage. Again, this is for sustained writes.

phone delivery day!! been feeling like a kid at christmas eve the entire weekend. :D

the avo store told me they had no burgundy phones, so i took a black one. then two days later they told me they now have, so i switched back. :)

also ended up getting a "soft touch" moov case from the istore and i'm sending the techwoven one back. still don't know what the techwoven one feels like and watched some videos on it too and i reckon the moov one will give better protection.
 
iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max sold 1.3 million units in China during the first week, beating the 17 Pros

During the pre-order period in China, retailers quickly ran out of available iPhone 18 Pro series units – according to estimates, 7 million units were pre-ordered. Some stores saw double the revenue compared to the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max launch last year.

This momentum has carried over into actual sales too. According to information by blogger RD Observation, the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max have sold approximately 1.3 million units during the first week of availability in China.

This is 15% more units than what the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max sold last year during their first week. Of course, they were competing with the vanilla iPhone 17 and the iPhone Air.

But here’s the more impressive stat – sales of the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are 90% of what the whole iPhone 2025 lineup sold in China during the first week of availability. The absence of a new vanilla and a new Air model isn’t hurting Apple’s bottom line, it seems. Anyone who wants a new iPhone now has to get a Pro. And if you don’t, in a few months, Apple will release the new vanilla (and likely the new Air) model.

Interestingly, these estimates point to the iPhone 18 Pro Max as the more popular model of the two – it sold 55.5% of the total. During the pre-order stage it was the other way around – 60% of people picked the smaller Pro.

Apple raised the prices of its new models, but it was clever about it. The 256GB and 512GB models only went up by CNY 1,000 (around $150). Meanwhile, the already expensive 1TB and 2TB models' prices were hiked up by CNY 2,500 and CNY 3,500, respectively. This is despite Apple using slow QLC chips.

What's interesting is that the two Pro models came very close to matching the sales numbers of the full 2025 lineup last year during the first week after launch.
