Apple iPhone 7 vs Samsung Galaxy S8

On technical specs maybe. However the article does not take into consideration items like software supportability etc. Love both models to be honest, and would love to have both. :) Currently have the iPhone 7 but guess that is because I am Apple fanbooi. Also iPhone if they stick to there normal release schedule may match/better the S8 specs.

The sad reality of phones now is that we have reached the point where a mid range phone does exactly what the top of the range does, but just a few milliseconds slower.

I'm not an Apple fanbooi but I just don't like the Samsung's

- don't like their tweaks to base Android and updates take forever
- Bixby  - yet another assistant - Siri is just as  though - Google Assistant is the most useful (wish it ran on IOS)

Samsung has gone for huge screens on the devices, with the S8 featuring a 5.8-inch display and the S8+ sporting a 6.2-inch display – both with a resolution of 2,960 x 1,440.

To put this into perspective, the iPhone 7 features a 4.7-inch display, while the iPhone 7 Plus has a 5.5-inch screen.

Just a note: The screen sizes are not comparable when the aspect ratio is not the same.

For instance, compare the 5.5" iPhone 7 Plus with the 5.8" Galaxy S8. Click on side-by-side.

The display on the Galaxy S8 is bigger when measured diagonally, but because it is much more narrow, it's area is actually not much more than the 5.5" display on the iPhone 7 Plus.

Alex Dobie from Android Central makes this point: http://www.androidcentral.com/189-world-we-need-new-way-quantify-screen-size

Doubt they'll match it.

Hardly matters though - I just bought an iPhone knowing fully well I could get better specs Samsung side.

Over the Android garbage. Pity we can't get a Samsung device with iOS.

OK, let's see. I feel like nitpicking a bit:

It listed eight “truly innovative” features of the S8 range following the launch event – as detailed below.

Infinity display – Bezel-less design with curved display.

I am sure bezelless displays have been done before (Xiaomi Mi Mix), as have curved displays (S6 Edge comes to mind).

Bixby – A new personal assistant.

Exclusive to Samsung but hardly innovative as Google and iOS has done it before.

Biometric authentication – facial recognition and iris scanning.

The Lumia 950 had this a while ago IIRC.

10nm processor – Industry’s first 10nm processor.

That they are, in collaboration with SnapDragon. Truly an amazing SoC.

Dex – a docking station for use as a desktop PC.

Continuum anyone?

Gigabit LTE and Wi-Fi – 1Gbps download speeds.

Very impressive, I hope the storage (and data bundles :p) can cope with the write speeds.

HDR – Mobile HDR Premium certified.

Never heard of this before but I am sure it is relevant.

Bluetooth 5 – faster transfer speeds.

Woosh! Sadly I cannot think of the last time I used BT to transfer files to someone:o

To be honest my BT is on for my Mi Band 2. That's about it.

But I do get the idea behind it and it's really grown since the early implementation years ago
