As far as I know mixit is just a jabber client right? Seeing as the iPhone runs OS X and iChat is jabber enabled I dont see the problem?

It's got a touch screen interface with various keyboard layouts. Numeric, QWERTY, T9 . . .
I'm sorry but how are you being locked into iTunes exactly? If you mean purely from a synching software front then which phone with PC synching capabilities does not have some proprietary offering along the synching front? Motorola's synching software is k@k, and if you don't have the cd anymore, you have to buy it... so what the problem is?
So any truth in the iphone os x being "closed". I didn't get that impression. Imagine what this phone will do for news and blogging on the go.
Take picture, write comment, drop file on Transmit droplet, and BobJones is your uncle! Instant blog update... can you imagine the kinda things you can do using automator or a little applescript?
well the N91 doesn't need any nokia software to sync.As for syncing, you're right I know of nothing on the market (including the microsoft ones) that doesn't need something to sync.

erm... the N91 also comes in 4 and 8GBand even the yet to be released Nokia N-series phones are gonna come with a whopping 2gig - no competitive advantage there at all. What was jobs thinking.
Boy was I wrong about thatCingular is just a carrier - I doubt there's anything to prevent you simply buying one outright like you can with any other phone.
With 4 or 8gb storage I'm also not overly concerned expansion.
I wonder how long ICASA will take to approve it?
Boy was I wrong about thatCingular has confirmed that consumers will have to take out a two year contract. http://crunchgear.com/2007/01/10/apple-iphone-faq/
I wonder if apple in their infinite wisdom (ok stupidity) is going to have local mandatory partnerships worldwide? Sorry but no phone is worth that.
My point was that usually you can buy a phone outright from a shop or provider without a contract - this time is not like that. In order to own an iPhone you would be required to take out a 2 year [-]sentence[/-] contract with Cingular.go look on there website they quote it there...
"The iPhone!"

It looks like Steve Jobs jumped the gun in sticking with the iPhone name, which is owned by Cisco. The two companies were in negotiation as Jobs took the stage on Tuesday to introduce his new mobile device, but didn't find a common ground…at least not soon enough. Cisco's final efforts to make a deal were apparently rebuffed or ignored by Jobs. The two companies had an idea to share the brand, to make clear their differentiation (which would be hard to do), to have their products interoperate, and to announce the deal by Macworld.
My guess is Apple Phone a'la the iTV's evolution into Apple TV.According to ZDNet, cisco owns the name 'iPhone' and is filing a lawsuit against apple for copyright infringement.

Maybe Apple will rename it to 'iMobile' or 'iCell'![]()
The battery life specs don't mention standby time, but 5 hours talk-time seems about standard. No matter how lovely this looks, and all the gadgets that have been integrated, I still worry about battery capacity.
My ability to be in touch is more important than entertainment. Battery technology has come a long long way, but to really support a comms/entertainment device there is some way to go.
If I'm traveling I will listen to my iPod until it runs dry, but still want may phone to work; if its a long trip I can switch the phone off to communicate when I need to.
This may be just me and my preferences...
