Apple leads in security vunerabilities, Microsoft third

That is for Windows, not OS X. It refers to their Quicktime/iTunes/Safari software for Windows. Also, having a vulnerability is one thing, having attacks based on it is another.

Still it's a big issue no doubt.
 
I still think they still are, the market penetration is so low that the cost/benefit ratio of exploiting the desktop devices is so low that it's not worth the effort.

Mobile is another story, iPhone/iPad exploits could be quite profitable....
 
AFAIK the majority of the exploits take advantage of Java holes.
