Do any of you new mac converts have a consumer grade camcorder? Many - including the canon I have - has FW which makes life a lot easier than trying to do it via USB even into something as lowly as iMovie - which is definitely not a pro app.I'm speaking for myself and all the NEW Mac converts, we don't need firewire and there are a wave of us, Apple in my opinion understand their market and have catered for us. The new users are esata and Wifi users btw and with USB3 on it's way we don't need firewire.
BTW - wrt sustained data transfers FW400 is faster than USB2 and FW800 puts them both to shame.
I think they were worried about it damaging MBP sales. People are looking at smaller lighter machines and there really isnt that much between the MB and the 15" MBP.That's BS and you know it. If that was true, why did the white and black Macbooks (and iBook before that) all have FireWire. Dropping it is a cost-cutting exercise.
