Apple Never Invented Anything

Well apple didnt invent anything true but I believe the point is they as a company should have no right to sue another company simply because the products are similar. If thats the case then apple to pay microsoft dues for the first tablet pc.

The point is, apple should not behave as if its this grand company that invents things.

I basically agree which is why it's so ludicrous that Apple thinks they're entitled to go after Samsung for doing exactly the same thing.

You either love them or you hate them, but as the post says they take ideas and they improve them, Steve Jobs bibliography admitted this and a few times he admits how stole there ideas such as ones from IMB. He was hard and yes ideas where stolen, iphone design has a big relationship to previous sony designs but the fact is they took it, used it and make it a big deal say what you will their bank account is happy and in this world thats the only thing that matters.

It's just sad when the one that stole first got away with it and then took another to court for copying the crime. And to top it off the first thieve became stinking rich ... "and in this world thats the only thing that matters".

If this story doesn't stir up disgust/contempt for Apple then nothing will. Then what Mugabe, Zuma, and Malema do should also be good and they should then also be allowed to fill their pockets with gold.

Such a drama queen, my goodness.

Here is Apple "stealing" from Dieter Rams:

Notice how carefully crafted it is, how it obeys the principles of Rams' design philosophy? If I was Rams, I'd be downright flattered - as indeed he was:
I am always fascinated when I see the latest Apple products. Apple has managed to achieve what I never achieved: using the power of their products to persuade people to queue to buy them. For me, I had to queue to receive food at the end of World War II. That’s quite a change.

Would you consider Samsung's work a homage to Apple?

Here is Picasso "stealing" from Braque (as in the origin of the phrase, "Good artists borrow, great artists steal"):
Braque_PIcasso.jpg

See how he carefully mimicked Braque's style, worked together with him, honoured him, until he was able to create something totally new out of the raw material of Braque's vision of cubism?

Drama queen? Cerebus, the manner in which you call others names and try to make others look less intelligent than yourself shows a self-righteous haughtiness that I find as contemting as Apple and Jobs. It makes your religious stanpoints difficult to appreciate. I, and others, have told you this before.

You've just reinfoced my argument on this matter with your post. I've said all along that Apple should have dealt with this differently ... exactly like you just now described others doing it. I even pointed to the Shatterprufe ad as a way to make my statement.

Really you think this whole little rant wasn't sliiightly drama queenish?

I've told you before bevonk, I don't actually care less what you think of me. I'm fairly happy with the cerebus that I am. If you think I'm making personal insults then feel free to think that, it's just the way I talk and I'm not going to apologize for it all the time. I'm not though, just mainly trying to bring you down to earth when you go off on an unholy rant about this stuff like the fate of earth depends on realizing how utterly evil Apple is. It's totally ludicrous. This is gadgets man, not Zimbabwe; get a grip.

No. Not at all. There are people - and I am one of them - that hates injustice and the way the world around us has been (and still is) corrupted ... and it stirs us up. What may seem trivial to you may not be for others. Apple has become for me a symbol of injustice ... all that is wrong in the world around me. They steal but then patents what they stole and then try to destroy others with it. I am surprised that you (of all people here who advertises your beliefs) should have a problem with me and the strong position I take.

Then we're agreed, that you take such positions and I continually try to deflate you in a gentle mockery kind of way. Pls don't take it so personally though, I really don't mean to cause such offense. If my personality is brackish, it's the man I was born with.

2 Corinthians 10:10:
For they say, “His letters are weighty and strong, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech of no account.”

Thanks Cerebus. I appreciate such a reply.

Apple betrayed many of us "older gen" geeks. They betrayed what we stood for. They were the geeks fighting the corrupted institutionalised tech industry that bullied others. Now they have become even worse than those we fought. I often wonder what Woz really believes about where Apple has gone. Woz is my type of "geek". Jobs turned Apple into a monster. I was a huge fan from way back ... but what I see today is a monster. My strong emotion in this matter may well also lie in this betrayal.

Well yes they're an evil corporate, I mean that's obvious. From following their behaviour I happen to not think they're any more or less evil than any other corporate. I've given many examples today - lawsuits over IP are absolutely rampant. Nokia got 600mil out of Apple for it; where was your outrage then? Microsoft extracts hundreds of millions from poor barely scraping to get by devs who just want to create something on the Android platform and don't have the legal resources to fight them - why aren't you picketing them? Oracle sues Google. Kodak sues Apple. Why is Apple so much more evil than any of them? Currently they are being sued by more people than they are suing. Every one of those companies uses lawsuits as a defense and an offense; it's part of survival in contemporary tech. So the system is corrupt, well I agree. It always is.

Samsung WAS mimicking them - not in a sincere homage, making-something-breathtakingly-new kind of way a-la Dieter Rams and Picasso - they copied the iPhone's features to make their own phones. Why shouldn't they be slapped for it? It's how the game works. If you don't step up, you get stepped on.

Greed consumed Jobs. He left a legacy of greed and destruction ... an aggresive self-righteousness that is so against the way he supposedly followed in his personal life/beliefs. He inverted everything ... and we now sit with a company on our hands with billions to squander on litigation to kill the new Apples of this world. IBM, HP and Microsoft were meek and mild in comparison.

I rather think he became obsessed with the perfection of his own product. Jobs wasn't much of a greedy individual, he was rather cut from your cloth - zealous and misguided.

Zealous absolutely. In what way am I misguided? Please explain the path that I should in your opinion be on?

So when Apple copies it an homage?

Henry Ford never invented the car, he just perfected making it. Also I don't think Apple ever claimed to actually have invented their products from scratch. They looked at GUI and said we can do it better, looked at mp3 players and said they were crap we can make a good one, looked at how music was bought and said it is flawed this way will be better etc etc. As one of the other posters said, they might not have invented it but they repackaged it in such a way that the user experience was infinitely better and effectively "new."
Not really. Their real strength lies in marketing.

You either love them or you hate them
Some of us simply choose to have a balanced view instead.

but the fact is they took it, used it and make it a big deal say what you will their bank account is happy and in this world thats the only thing that matters.
The ends justify the means. Does this apply to everyone or just Apple?

You tend to be a crusader. That's the path you should move away from.

Yeppo.

So when Apple copies it an homage?
What I was trying to illustrate, and I guess failed to do, is that there is a very strong distinction between taking inspiration from and slavishly copying.

Heavens alive, I do wish Apple were actually permitted to be weighed by the same standard as every other company. Then we wouldn't have all this silly reactionary twittering.
